New Melvins:

Out June 1st.
Clock is ticking!!!
I keep trying to get more into this band. I’ve heard, and listened to the Pigs of the Roman Empire album they did with Lustmord millions of time. Stoner Witch and Maggot. But sadly, i’ve never really wandered past those three albums. Maybe i’ll check this one too (when it comes out), but I still have so much “catching up” to do.

try getting the melvins/fantomas new years freakout cd.
it’s got patton singing on the songs of both bands and is like a bridge from one band to the other
Actually. I have the Fantomas/Melvins live cd. Monsterworks, I think? Only heard it a few times though. Like fantomas though.

Try Houdini and the last two albums, nude w/boots and (a) senile animal. All three are killer albums and very accessible.
according to wiki:
Trevor Dunn - bass guitar, backup vocals (2005 - present)
When did this happen? Last time I saw them play it was with those guys from Big Buisness.

That’s barely even the tip of the iceberg.
I think the Melvins are actually one of those bands that got better with time rather than worse. Their super early material is just a derivative of punk, and even when forming their signature sound I thought the early albums were kinda boring.

Hope this album’s better than the last one. 'Tis all good they were trying something new, but it wasn’t my favourite. Doesn’t mean it was bad at all, though.
The Trevor Dunn thing is interesting. I actually saw this line up in Melbourne tearing thru the Houdini album. I spoke to Trev afterwards, and it was pretty much a ‘fill in’ sort of thing, nothing ‘official’ or too serious like that. So I’m not sure what the deal with the wiki is tho…

Apart from the last 4 tracks, Nude WIth Boots was shamefully mediocre.

I thought he meant that remix one that came after NWB
Guess I’m the only one who prefers NWB to A Senile Animal?
Relatively recent convert to The Melvins and can understand why it would be disappointing to long time fans, but I’m scratching my head here trying to figure out who could resist the charms of “The Kicking Machine” or “Dog Island”. Title track stomps too. The riffs are more on the classic/hard rock side of things but I think it suits the material great. Also think the double drum assault is utilized better on that record.
Can’t wait for the new one. Pumped as a water balloon that they’re kicking the tour off in San Diego, better get tix for this one fast.
Awesome.
I’m looking forward to this one as Buzzo etc have said it’s a departure from the last two…(the art work from mackie is definately a departure that’s for sure)
I like Big Business very much…but am also very much looking forward to their departure from Melvins…Melvins is a far deadlier force as a three peice.
Preview of tracks is up on amazon:

Evil New War God
Pig House

Awesome.
Snippets don’t mean much but from what I heard the last half of the album sounds fucking great!
I think myspace is previewing the whole album soon. Check out the Melvins’ myspace for more info.
Can’t say I like the artwork. Looks slapdash… sorta like the Rantology job.
From a photographer’s point of view, everything’s slight out of focus, the colour scheme is off… ugh.
And if anyone calls me a wanky nitpicker with no life…
I actually totally, whole heartedly agree. [laugh]

No I agree. I think it’s pretty wank. And the album title is corny.
But the Melvins are one of those bands where “it’s all about the music maaan”
They have no image really (except being fat ugly stoners) and it seems to fit that their album artwork is going to be all over the place.
