MELVINS - Nude With Boots

Highly influential, creatively brilliant and all round super nice guys The Melvins have a new album, Nude With Boots, out in July.

Apparently it has leaked, for anyone who is interested, and sounds ‘….like (A) Senile Animal’ only weirder’.

Excellent.

Have been a masive fan of these guys since '93 and they almost NEVER fail to deliver (except for their colabs with Jelo Biafra which were…meh!..at best).

Live they are astounding.

Anyone here a fan or is looking forward to the new album?? Anyone grabbed it already??

I think I’ll wait til it comes out - as I have always done with this band. On a side note, I think they are the greatest ‘metal’ band to ever exist…period (fuck Black Sabbath!). Personally my faves are:

Bullhead
Stag
LYSOL
The Maggot
H.A.T

fuck Black Sabbath!

blasphemy!

can’t wait for this one. they never disappoint. I only own a few of their releases:
The Maggot
The Bootlicker
Pigs of the Roman Empire
A Senile Animal
Houdini Live
FantomasMelvins big band

I really want to check out more of their stuff. The more experimental, the better for me. I’m definitly not going to download the album before it comes out. July will be here before you know it.

Also, there’s a Melvins box set coming out with all the ipecac albums as well as unreleased stuff…so I think I’m gonna hold off until that comes out to buy any older stuff.

Then I’ll work my way backwards from there.

Fuck Black Sabbath!

I might.

I just might.

I have the new album but havent really listened to it much yet. I do like most of their albums and indeed, they never fail to supply the fans with something that is interesting, which is very important and very… uh. “unmetal”.
Which is why I dont consider them to be the best metal band out there

The Melvins sound is akin to ‘metal that thinks waaaay outside the box’.

If you get what I mean.

It is ‘metal’ that is NOT afraid to push the boundaries. In all fairness they are not straight up ‘heavy metal’.

But if had a perfect ideal in my head of how I’d like metal to sound like (in a perfect world) - it would definitely sound like a Melvins album!!

had the pleasure of seeing them live (supported by Flipper and Krist Novoselic), must say it’s one of my top 5 gigs.

Here’s the full press release. Good news all around.

The Melvins
Nude With Boots

It’s 2008 and The Melvins are still called family entertainment on another level? Almost 25 years, over 25 albums and still counting. Maybe they’re just too dumb to quit.

AND? Some people STILL think the Melvins should be called “The Fucks” because they’re so fucked.

The band still includes founding member King Buzzo and almost founding member Dale Crover, and they STILL have the Big Business guys Jared Warren and Coady Willis playing with them. This is extraordinary considering how hard it is for bass players and others to stick around the Melvins camp for more than two minutes. Everyone always loses their minds with or without drugs, but mostly with. They can’t explain why, but the list of former members is about 40 and counting. Well, 40 might be a bit of an exaggeration but not by much.

The Melvins have been a band for a long, long, long, long time… A long, long, long time. They’re somewhere in between a novelty act and yesterdays news. It’s a strange place for a band with a Peter Pan complex to be in but there it is!

What the hell right?

We ALL want to just get on a space ship and watch the earth explode, don’t we?

As hard as it might be to believe, The Melvins have a NEW album in the can! It’s called Nude With Boots and is scheduled for a July 8 release. This is good news because it means the boys will be hitting the road again in the United States AND in Europe! The rest of the world could follow, but who knows? Hell, that would be like eight months from now and it’s hard to plan that far ahead.

Nude With Boots was recorded in Hollywood in a couple of weeks give or take a day or two and the boys seem to be extremely happy with the outcome. It’s good? Groovy good! They played it for their wives and girlfriends and they seemed to like it so HERE WE GO! No shit Sherlock!

Let’s see?

JESUS! The Melvins will be celebrating 24 years in the business this year and have absolutely NOTHING planned for it, maybe next year when they turn 25?

However, along with their new album, Nude With Boots, they do have a shit load of things happening THIS year that include:

  1. A lot of touring
  2. The vinyl releases of (A) Senile Animal, which will be in a super deluxe quadruple gate fold sleeve with four etched, one-sided 12 inch records
  3. Two more 12 inchers with double surprises
  4. A secret 7 inch (so secret that not even the band is aware of it)
  5. More fun with Haze XXL
  6. A split 7 inch with Rancid Vat
  7. The Fantomas Melvins Big Band DVD
  8. A huge limited edition Ipecac box set of everything the Melvins have done with the label as well as stuff you haven’t heard at all
**Plus other stuff we forgot all about or don’t know about or something

It’s a big world out there and nothing is ever as hopeless as it seems. Dig?

Well…
The Melvins have put out a ton of albums and done a shit-load of touring in their vast 24 year musical career but nobody is offering them a TV show, and I don’t mean a bogus “reality” show I mean a show like Sha-Na-Na had in the late 70’s. It’s REALLY bogus. A Melvins show seems like a no brainer, but the world is not a right place. If you don’t pay attention to TV then you can’t realize just how bad it really is.

The Melvins’ influence is vast and incomparable. It’s global baby, and AND King Buzzo has even been accused of attempted murder! What the fuck is that? You know it HAS to be bullshit because when the King starts something, he finishes it. He’s never ATTEMPTED anything in his life. He gets the job done, and so do the Melvins.

When does the man get here with all the candy?

Release date: July 8, 2008

I’ve seen the Melvins 3 times and only once was it a legit show. The first time, buzz chugged on his E string while the band got pelted with debris for 20 minutes. When they opened for Tool they played some tape loop about the devil over and over until the crowd was pissed, then played one song. The other time I saw them they played a real set and absolutely killed it. I think their albums are kinda like that too. When they play actual songs, they are awesome. But I don’t need 30 minutes of feedback on half the album. My 2 cents.

The Melvins toured with Godflesh at some point in the mid nineties.

I remember hearing about that Tool incident - apparently the Tool crowd HATED them with a passion - which is typical for a Tool gig. Same goes for Fantomas. They opened for Tool in L.A and got booed and spat at for nearly half an hour. Then they gave the crowd the finger and walked off whilst being pelted with plastic bottles.

I saw The Melvins for the first time in Melbourne in '97. Unfortunately it was one of ‘those’ Melvins gigs. They played a chunk of stuff off the Prick album, which didn’t go down too well (hardcore Melvins fans will understand why the Prick stuff was met with stony silence) and Buzz bitched for half an hour about all the bands he HATED (including Primus, Rage Against The Machine and Soundgarden - particularly Chris Cornell whom Buzz seemed to loathe beyond contempt). The crowd started to grow restless and eventually started jeering, calling Buzz a ‘Queen!!’. As it was only a smalll club and the crowd were relatively close to the audience, Buzz started freaking out and went and stood at the back of the stage. It was weird - he REALLY seemed frightened of the crowd.

“This crowd is rude” was all he would say.

I guess Australian audiences are like that. They don’t take well to smart assery and can react quite violently when ‘stars’ get too big for their boots.

Or perhaps there were just alot of Soundgarden fans in the audience?

Anyway, afterwards I met Buzz and Mark D and they were really nice. They even signed a copy of my Honky album!

I would say he wasn’t frightened. This sounds like a “normal” “Melvins fuck with the audience!” Type of show. Look at Collosus of Destiny. The scheduled 2 separate shows in a night to be recorded for a future live album. This first show was 1 hour of feedback. The second was a full Melvins set. They released the first as the live album.

I’ve seen them stand on stage, in complete silence, staring at the audience during what would normally be the “encore break”. They just stood. It was hilarious to watch the audience’s reaction.

The Melvins are constantly fucking with their audiences and their fans. That’s what they do. And they do it well. Including releasing a live 8-track ltd to 99 copies and a 7" with nothing on it.

love that buzzo. and yes, a super nice guy.
the record should have been nude descending a staircase w/buzzo.

Man, Prick pissed me off so bad when I got it. Terrible.

i love these guys.

i found them through nirvana (yeah yeah fuck off, i LIKE nirvana) and have always liked theiri output.

some of it is a little eh, but for the most part class stuff. the jello albums were GREAT (not as good as jello’s cd with DOA) but thius alst album (a)SA was kinda shoddy. i have high hopes for this one though!

Ok, the melvins are one of those bands that I have heard one or two things from, and liked. (ie. the jello stuff and seen the video for honeybucket).

Recommendations for a first album or two?

and whats the go with this Prick album, I assume it sounds different to other melvins stuff, in a bad way,

(fuck Black Sabbath!)

Wow ok you definitely lose all respect now.

I like Houdini and Stag the best but they have alot of really good stuff. Prick is some kind of experiment and it sucks. It has tracks like 5 minutes of crowd noise with a kick drum hitting every 30 seconds. Another track is called “Pure Digital Silence”, you can guess what it sounds like. Here’s a video of good time Melvins fun: http://youtube.com/watch?v=y7C10qI8J_o&feature=related

Someone forgot to tell the crowd this was a rock show.

Houdini and Stoner Witch, being two of the least crazy releases, are good places to start…

Personally, my favorite record is still Gluey Porch Treatments.

On a side note, I think they are the greatest ‘metal’ band to ever exist…period (fuck Black Sabbath!).
