MasterbaTOUR is really rubbing me the wrong way!

Anybody read ‘Snakepit’?

Anyway, this comic strip that I hastily put together in the style of ‘Snakepit’ shows what I think of Al J currently. I am really disappointed that he only picked up the guitar twice during the Ministry set and just did vocals other than that. And While RevCo may be legendary, their appearance on this tour was frivolous and annoying! It was not worth my $40+.

I actually agree with you - but the fact is, Al has only been playing guitar on 2-3 tracks during shows since at least '92. I really rather like your comic, and I think it’s accurate. But it would have been better to point out something about the fact that pumping up the volume to the point that the audience can’t differentiate your songs from a wall of noise might have been more relevant.

I was at HOB july 2 show. I thought Al put on a great show, it was high energy. But I think Al should call it a career and retire. Will not fork out $50 again for ministry. I just think there is no new ground for them to cover. The bush bashing gets old for me real quick. I do like Rio and cannot believe how fast it is. I did enjoy revco they were awesome, put on a great show a lot of fun. [:)]

  1. Al’s not a lead guitarist. That’s why he hires Scaccia, Svitek, etc.
  2. Earplugs are the way to go.

so i guess you think that Miles Davis wasn’t talented? he didnt’ play through all of (or much of) his later live shows. or george clinton - for that matter. or James Brown…

you make a weak point.

I saw them on July 1 and wasnt disappointed, besides the fact I wish they would have added a couple of more songs, but I knew that they probably wouldnt do more than that. I got to hear some great RevCo and Ministry songs that night.

Funny cartoon. Paying 50 bucks for Ministry is about on par with current acts touring that had their hayday in the early 90s. I paid 75 for Guns N Roses, 65 for Depeche Mode, 50 for Nine Inch Nails and about 45 for Ministry. So its about average I think. Its funny, you can still see bands like KMFDM and Nitzer Ebb for under 25 bucks.

Al hasn’t played guitar much though in recent tours. The new material is so fast, I don’t think he could do it with much ease. Best to leave it to the other guys, and just do the whole preaching vocals thing he does so well.

I look at the Revco tour sort of a farewell for that band, as the new material isn’t really inspired and I dunno, I just didn’t dig them live. I think Ministry can tour w/o releasing new material, Al just needs to learn to balance things just a bit better. Old material should NOT be ignored. Please see the current NIN set lists as a fantastic example of a great set list.

Anyway, I am thrilled anytime I get to see Ministry as I never got to see any of the bigger arena tours from the early 90s, so anytime Al tours I am never really disappointed.

I actually had a BLAST with Revco. Ministry, not so much, though I did get into it at the time. I would have been more disappointed if I hadn’t known the setlist beforehand, but since I did, I took it for what it was. Eh, I only paid $30 and got to be up front, so it could have been worse.
And you’re absolutely right on the NIN show - that was the best concert I’ve been to in a LONG time, and I’m not even that much into NIN anymore. They put on a great performance, with interesting visuals and a varied setlist. Not to mention Bauhaus! Although, I was the only person in the entire amphitheater who seemed to know who they were. I was the only one dancing, anyway.
And why did no one tell me that J.D. Sampson from Le Tigre was playing with Peaches? That was an overall GREAT concert.
I even found $22 on the ground…

ministry haven’t been out here for ten fucking years, and people who do get to see them are bitching that that the leader didn’t multi-task much?

don’t worry… in a few years there wont be any good bands playing anywhere at all.

Bauhaus, hmmm…
I keep seeing a video of theirs, cant recall the name, just a slow sark video, havnt liked it at all when I’ve seen it. Just too dreary and bleh. Not sure what the rest of their stuff is like. I hear people praise them a lot. Are all their songs like that?

Ever seen that movie “The Hunger” with David Bowie and Susan Sarandon? Bauhaus is the band at the club in the beginning - this is how I first heard them when I was like 9 or 10. And yes, it’s very goth, very theatrical, although a few of their songs really get going pretty well, like “The Passion of Lovers.” They even did a good rocking cover of Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust.”

bauhaus…

The reason people like bauhaus is very different from the reason people like things like Pantera or, let’s face it, anything Ministry’s done in the last decade and a half. If you’re expecting them to rock out, they’re not the band you’re looking for.

And anyone expecting some kind of guitars/metal/nu-metal type of thing, don’t even bother. As far as you’re concerned (to quote Jeff Spicoli), “Those guys are fags!!”

Having them play with Nine Inch Nails was an odd pairing. But I suppose when you consider that NIN opened for Peter Murphy back in 89 or so… I guess it comes back around.

I could see nin fans liking Murphy and Bauhaus way more than Ministry Fans. I think that a really odd pairing was when nIn toured with autolux or moving units. Generic indie rock doesn’t seem to mix well with nin to me. I wasn’t able to go to the tour this time around but i can imagine tons of kids wondering why on earth trent would have that old neil diamond sounding man opening for him. i think he puts on a great show though.

  1. It’s good to have opinions.

  2. It’s fun to share comics about my opinions on a message board.

  3. My point is not weak because there IS no point.

  4. Maybe I’ll start giving a shit about Miles Davis, James Brown and George Clinton so that I can give a shit about them not working on instrumentation during their live performances. Then I can say, "Oh, that’s right. This argument was originally about Ministry! What the fuck am I doing?

  5. Shut up.

Bahaus -
Yeah I assumed they wouldn’t be all metal. While I like that stuff, I’m not as close-minded as a lot of metal fans I know. Lots of good stuff out there that doesn’t consist of the same few riffs with some screaming vocals.
I love that stuff. But difference is required.
Thanx for the info though, may check them out. Although I dunno about the “theatrical” element, not usually into that kind of stuff. (although when I think that I think of crappy black metal bands version of theatrical) We’ll see

ahoy there matey!

i disagree with your revco observation. i went in thinking revco was gonna suck, but revco was far better than ministry on this tour. i’d love to seea revco headlining tour (which won’t ever happen) because luc and phildo and josh all made that set amazing. i loved the revco set.

sorry to hear you didn’t get your moneys worth man.

i sure did.

Word.
Although judging by the current standards, one would assume that Josh, or the rest of that lineup (AKA Stayte), will not be around after this tour. Which is a shame - they put on a very fun show.

Yup, stayte is planning on touring within the next two months.
