in the spirit of nashtheslash’s stream-of-consciousness thread postings, I figured I’d post this one since for 3 days straight I’ve been cleaning and making sure our stuff doesn’t get destroyed in the hurricane…
who here is a fan of the mighty T REX/MARC BOLAN? I’ve been playing his box set pretty much on repeat for a while now, it’s a great set. anyone? i wish there was more music these days that was in the vein of cockiness like Bowie, Iggy or Bolan…too bad I hate brit-pop
I am a big fan of Tyrannosaurus Rex - the pre glam folky outfit that Bolan did with Peregrin Took. Check out Unicorn. Devendra Banhart fans should hang their collective heads in shame at how much Banhart pilfered from Bolan’s folksy roots (down to the “fey” accent and everything).
Not a huge fan of the glam stuff but The Slider is still a great album imho.

Shame he died so young.
Yeah! The pre-glam LP’s were really nice, they had a production that even when someone TRIES to emulate it these days doesn’t always work. Monoaural sound on magnetic tape, almost recorded in a closet on a shit 6-string acoustic, fey but cool warbly vocals…it’s almost too good
I freaking love T.Rex. Zip Gun is my least favorite, Dandy in the Underworld is up there as one of my favorites- he was really on to something before he passed. I think his next album would have been killer.
I just find it hard to believe he put out all that great music before he was even in his thirties. Jesus christ. I’m the exact age that he died, and I can’t fathom how much songwriting talent was able to come forth from him.
