Making A Great Night Better

So I’m pretty stoked about the upcoming Wax Trax fest. The lineup contains many of my favorite bands of all time playing in honor of the guys who ran the label that released quite a few of the most listened-to albums in my collection. I really couldn’t have wished for something cooler.

But that got me to thinking… there are always some things that could happen to make it better. And I don’t really mean setlists… because anything they play will be fine by me. I’ve never managed to see the real Revolting Cocks live and while I did manage to catch several of the other bands, it never seemed to be during their prime (TKK in 04 opening for Ministry and 242 in their short-lived techno phase in 98). So as long as they break out some of the good stuff and put their hearts into it, I’ll be fine. Plus what fun is there in a list of “I want to hear xxx”?

So here’s a quick list I put together of things that would send this over the top. Some will obviously never happen, but any one of them would make this thing even better.

  1. Any set going longer than 2 hours
  2. Chris Connelly and the gang selling bootleg Pigface T-shirts at the merch booth
  3. “Screw the Sunday crowd, here’s something really special” coming from anyone in any band followed by something pretty cool (you know, since I won’t be there on Sunday)
  4. An old school Ministry reunion with a midget singer as an opener
  5. “… and Bill Rieflin on drums”
  6. Getting a chance to meet any of the guys from any of the bands and having them be cool with it

So any other ideas from you guys?

  1. “… and Bill Rieflin on drums”

this. plus… (as i’m not able to go - i tried to get a ticket - sold out) to be completely honest… i think it would be cool to meet a few of you guys, smoke a cig or two with paul or chris or bill r.- talk about records. maybe get a buzz at the bar while hoping to hear “In the Neck”.

and honestly… trent should show some love and go.

the whole thing for me would be to catch the cocks gathering and say hello to a few of the guys.

  1. An old school Ministry reunion with a midget singer as an opener

“Hello, singer from Accept? You busy? Well, hear me out on this…”

I will be attending all three nights, so I’m beyond excited. Kinda hoping they re-print a selection of the old tees (would love one of the white subway-style 242 Medusa’s shirts, which wasn’t even in the mail order catalog). I would really like to get the chance say hello to CC, Paul and Luc at some point, and it would be cool to talk to Julia Nash. How great would it be if they were cutting instant USBs or CDs of the concerts every night? I’ve been to a few shows where you could buy the gig immediately after watching it (Pixies delivered a very nice 2-CD package during their Doolittle tour last year). That is definitely a stretch, but would be awesome.

I definitely want to make plans for a Prongs meet-up, so let’s definitely get some sort of plan together in the next couple of weeks. Cannot wait.

1002

The only thing that would make this whole thing better was if I ACTUALLY COULD FUCKING GO.

Awfully, AWFULLY nice of ya. I’m afraid I’m gonna be in Lake Havasu, though. STILL! If I can weasel my way outta a few things, consider it a DEAL.

You better find a damn good reason because I can’t take off from work to take up that offer!

Icepick, I admire your work, and how fun would it be to trash Afra’s at the pre-game, hmm?
(disclaimer: Gerda Barker does not condone the trashing of Afra’s groovey pad. Man.—I’m staying there, for godsakes…I’ve stayed previously, and always a treat.)
hope it works out.

Everyone is telling to sell my soul, call in every favor or debt I’m owed, cash in my life savings, give Ma the finger, and just GO.

DAMMIT.

Decisions. Decisions.

Dude, just go. You know it’s what you want.

“Dude, just go. You know it’s what you want…” said the devil
Muhahahahahahaha… “sign here!!!”
Late,
grmpysmrf

Gerda, can I take you up on your offer?
I’m flying in from S.f and only have a Sunday ticket. i’ve been trying on ebay, but the prces are too high.
I have something for you btw…

filthpig, I’ll see what I can do. I thought about icepick because he was stressed out not being able to afford the ticket? and I DO like his art. Let you know.
I know the online craigslist bs is about ten times the price. There were probably people in the Wax related camp ( if you know what I mean)buyin’ 'em up and ready to make some cash.
You understand there is no guest list for this. Everybody pays. Me included and my daughter. Paul doesn’t because he performs.
Were there a guest list, the charity would make zero.
This whole affair has been challenging. and frightening thinking of who will lurk by the bar and say, “remember me?”
tomorrow.

filth pig, whatcha gots for me?
you can’t PM me because Afra apparently blocked that. (thanks, buddy)
a hint?

ICEPICK THIS IS IT…GET IT OR FILTHPIG DOES

Its something from Chicago.
While I was doing research for my trip, I came across it, and decided you should have it. Its appropriate for the Wax Trax weekend, atleast in my mind. Further explanation when you get it.

Oh and i’d totally give you money for the pass, or make a donation to the Center.
i bought raffle tickets through JNash via email for the fundraiser last Saturday but didnt win =(

All in all, i have a Sunday ticket, so its not as if i’m totally missing out.

WaxTrax fans are truly awesome fans.

fyi, I won’t be there for the movie premiere or the Sunday show. I HAVE WORK TO DO. Of course, Paul will be. Besides, I’ve already seen the movie and uh…is fairly poetic and correct as far as documenting the '96 tour. kick ass.
