Lots of new music this month...

I’m looking forward to:

Rasputina
Frontline Assembly
Killing Joke
Lilium
The Cure
Goldfrapp
Current 93

This post is as much a reference for me so that I don’t forget anything as it is a topic of discussion.

are you eying the disintegration reissue? i have that on order with amazon, just waiting for it to show up at my house.

Knew there was a new Rasputina. Just didn’t know when. Cool to see it’s soon. Thing about them is, i’ve heards probably everything, but the one album I go back to the most is Thanks For The Ether. Definitely checking this out.

Killing Joke is a no-brainer.

New Korn this month for those into that kind of thing. I think it’ll be terrible, maybe a few good ones.

There’s awesome records coming out daily…

I always keep tabs on the Piccadilly Records site as new records of all genres are coming in daily…also they have the record of the week in each genre along with the other records in those genres that have also come in.
On top of that you can listen to mp3 snippets of the records and decide what you think. If I like stuff I’ll hunt it down at my local record store here in Edinburgh…if I have no luck I just score it from Piccadilly or www.discogs.com

Yeah - the digital version is available now, but I’m hoping there’ll be a big markdown at Best Buy next Tuesday so I’m waiting to see.

ALL turntables are scratchable mate! Some like Technics 1210’s are just a bit better for scratching…especially with heavyweight concord stylus.

That is actually my local record store here in Edinburgh where I buy virtually all my records from. In the photo is Fudge Fingas!!! Fudge Fingas is an awesome House DJ/Producer who’s making some of the coolest records around at the moment under his own name and also on Firecracker Recordings with Linkwood Family. All the old skool House DJ/Producers are going bananas over Fudge Fingas & Linkwood…who would’ve thought…Scotland creating some of the best House music on the planet!!! hahahaha

well how come when I try to scratch some old records on my usb table it doesn’t sound as cool (or even close) when the black guys do it? no scribbles, no scratches,no backwards riffs I barely get any noise at all and it’s not a cool noise! I thought they were special Record players.

You have to have those slip pads on the turntable for easy slippin’.

No…you just have to know how to scratch. Obviously it helps having a mixer, concord stylus, slipmats and battle tools vinyl.

Believe me I’ve got the killer technics 1210s, concords, battle tools and slipmats and I don’t sound like the “black guys” when scratching. You have to practise for a looooooong time to get that “sound”. Drummers tend to be pretty bad-ass scrathers.

By the way…there also happens to be some pretty killer white guys who scratch too…example…

THE SWAMP!!! (everyone here needs to check this out by the way regardless of your feelings towards Hip Hop…this is what can be done with two turntables and a mixer and a don’t give a fuck attitude!!!hahahaha)

Not special turntables Smurf but at the very least you want direct drive turntables and not shitty belt driven turntables. If you scratch belt driven turntables the belt eventually comes off and you’ve got a turntable that doesn’t turn.

The best turntables are Technics 1210s…always have been and always will be. If you buy these you’ve basically got a turntable that’ll last your lifetime for the most part. They’re built like a brick shithouse and weigh a ton. There are plenty of other good turntables out there but Technics 1210s are the way to go…they’ve been the daddy since the 70s.

Basically Smurf this is what you want if you’d like to scratch, juggle beats and extend breaks or just have a kick-ass turntable for life…

Here’s my toys…

If you get the time Smurf do watch this incredible and very funny doco…

"Scratch is a feature-length film/ DVD that explores the world of the hip-hop DJ. From the birth of hip-hop, when pioneering DJ’s began extending breaks on their party records (which helped inspire break dancing and rap), to the invention of scratching and “beat-juggling” vinyl, to its recent explosion as a musical movement called “turntablism”, it’s a story of unknown underdogs and serious virtuosos who are radically changing the way we hear, play and create music.

The film features some of the world’s best DJ’s, whether they’re famous for solo scratching, competing in international DJ battles, playing for rap artists, or just rocking parties with the most insane records ever dug up.

Check out dynamic performances and interviews with DJ’s Q-bert, Mix Master Mike (of the Beastie Boys) Rob Swift and the X-ecutioners, Cut Chemist & NuMark (of Jurassic 5), DJ Craze, The Bullet Proof Space Travelers, Babu (of Dilated Peoples), DJ Krush, DJ Premier (Gang Starr), and others, along with “old-school” innovators like Afrika Bambaataa and GrandWizard Theodore (who is widely acknowledged as having invented the idea of scratching vinyl in the first place)."

Will do buddy thanks. Don’t know if I’m that into it. Just thought it was as easy as just moving the records back and forth on the stylus… it’s apparently not!
