London Riots

@ grmp: Though I’m not well versed on the Imf-Seattle riots I know that they are not the same in character as the London riots. The Battle in Seattle targeted major corporations and was very political in nature. The London riots was indiscriminate vandalism and violence. No overt politics.

@Gerda: pretty much spot on.

@lord of lard: That guy was right to give the interviewer a hard time (as she was appalling) but he’s certainly wrong about comparing the riots to Syria. The protesters in Syria have a very valid reason for stirring up the shit, the London yobs don’t. Also the murder of the guy in Tottenham sparked the trouble there but does not account for the trouble in other parts of London and then in Birmingham and Manchester. The riots aren’t even about racism; it has a multi ethnic nature.

This is the best (and by that I mean the only good) article on the riots I’ve read so far. Basically about the failure of ideological stances to understand it and the shortcomings of the reactionaries.

thanks for the read

Lord of lard I saw that Video a few days ago when that chick asked that old black reporter if he was a looter himself… disgraceful. wonder if she was reprimanded.

the titled and the entitled versus the poor. the US is already approaching, if not already in the territory of, a terrible “disconnect” ( and i HATE that word)which has the potential to incite violence. but that won’t happen.the US is different, for many reasons. were we all the same, the state of michigan would have been entirely wiped off of the map after the auto industry went under. can’t explain.this place is still the land of opportunity, if you know what it is that you want, and so many people don’t.

All the more reason to quit my bitchin’.

i live in london. luckily the closest the riots got to my flat was about 5 minutes walk away. i live on the edge of a predominantly Turkish area (green lanes/dalston) and they came out with guns (not reported for some reason) and bats and chased off the looters. which was nice :slight_smile:

sirens and helicopters and cop cars pretty much non-stop for 5 days.

so yeah, the majority of people rioting where ignorant fucking scum who thought they were owed something for nothing, jumping on the band wagon of what was initially a peaceful protest against what was considered a police fuck up. although 99% of the people rioting were not politically motivated, it’s obviously the state of politics and government in this country that has brought us to this situation.
