[reply]But hearing it for the first time as a jaded 40 year old man in 2014 is much akin to trying to figure out what the big fuss about “Midnight Cowboy” (the 1969 film which was . . . get this . . . rated X at time of release) is.

Terrible film, totally overrated balls.[/reply]

Nope. I’m with him on this.
I’m sure it was super momentous 45 years ago, but it is damn near unwatchable. Just slow. I remember I was like 14 when my friend and I found it in his parents’ video collection. I didn’t know much about the film other than being aware that it was RATED X, so we needed to watch it. Man, what a let down.

In a similar vein . . . nothing to do with wanting to X-rated titilation or anything, but another momentous and historic film that is horribly aged and coma-inducing is “The Graduate” (thanks again, Dustin). I had a girlfriend 20 years back that made me watch that and “Harold and Maude”, thinking she was some high-brow intellectual or something. I never let her recommend or pick another movie.

Nah, i hated it, to be honest, as Gunnar says maybe it was impressive in 1969, but it was less impressive to me when i saw it.

I should probably also mention that i think John Barry’s horrible, treacly score for Midnight Cowboys it totally overrated too, and that crappy theme tune.

I like both those movies, Tangerine Dream actually did some score work on Cowboy but I dunno if it was ever released.

Now, Easy Rider…that is overrated

Their music for Michael Mann’s The Keep was phenomenal, i saw it when i was 10 and even then it impressed me.

“Easy Rider” probably fits that same formula too, though I’ve not watched it in about 20 years. I don’t mind the theme song for “Midnight Cowboy”. I like Harry Nilsson, though that is NOT one of his best tracks.

Easy Rider is way overrated. It’s only good while Jack Nicholson is in it.

Fair enough.

Yeah, i loved their music for Thief, especially the end bit when Caan shoots the place up.

Sweet! You got some great flicks on that list!

Why they never made a Screwballs 3 is beyond me.

<shakes head in disbelief>

Freddie Got Fingered rules!!!

“Daddy would you like some sausage,Daddy would you like some sausages”

Buckaroo Banzai is an amazing film.

  1. Mac And Me

Best.

Movie.

EVER.

Dunno if you Netflix, but there’s a fascinating doc on him that is on instant watch called Who Is Harry Nilsson? I actually got into his music via that doc, amazing singer and even better songwriter. I can’t believe I never got into him before, same for Warren Zevon.

Ironically the one track people know him for, he didn’t even write

Karate Kid III

OMG.

It’s like a train wreck in slow motion. Absolutely brilliant. For all the wrong reasons.

But still brilliant.

  1. Patch Adams

In the John Waters movie ‘Cecil B. Demented’ (which is honestly not a great piece of celluloid itself), one scene involves the protagonists shooting up a theater that is showing “Patch Adams: The Director’s Cut.” I lol’d…
