List of changes to Star Wars: The Complete Saga Blu-Ray

An early glimpse at the official Blu-ray edition of [url “http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZSJ212?ie=UTF8&tag=thebutt02-20&linkCode=shr&camp=213733&creative=393185&creativeASIN=B003ZSJ212&redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_p74_d3_g74_i1”]Star Wars: The Complete Saga provides a more comprehensive look at the changes implemented by George Lucas.
Fortunately, TheForce.net has compiled a [url “http://theforce.net/latestnews/story/Bluray_Some_More_Tinkering_With_The_Saga_140346.asp”]final list of alterations to the Star Wars films.
The first change is early in the original Star Wars film. Kenobi’s dragon call scene has been enhanced with new audio which makes the sound seem a bit more supernatural, giving the hint that Kenobi is relying on the force to create and amplify the creepy sound.[url “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0EUjobdavw&feature=player_embedded”]

Another change to the film comes later in the same sequence, when R2-D2 is hiding behind some rocks. Now, inexplicably, he’s hiding behind even more rocks.

Most of the changes seem to have come in the final film of the original trilogy.
First, another race is now represented in Jabba’s palace. A Dug has been added to the Hut’s menagrie. The Dug are an ugly race who seem to walk on their hands. We first saw one sabotaging Anakin’s pod in Phantom Menace.

Also in that sequence, the door to Jabba’s room has been digitally enhanced to appear more impossing.

Later in the film, the Ewoks have been made slightly more realistic. They are still the original puppets, but an animator has gone in and given them each an occasional blinks of their eyes.

The Final change for Episode VI is the much derided “noooo!” which Vader now screams as he save’s Luke’s life, a move designed to parallel the climactic change the same character goes through at the end of Episode III, where he makes a similar yell.

There seems to only be one change throughout the new trilogy, and that’s the new Yoda we previously reported on.
Phantom Menace Yoda was originally played by a puppet, similar to the original trilogy, but by the time Episode II was in production, CG character animation technology had improved, and Yoda’s role had become more active, so he was replaced with a CG version.
This CG Yoda is now the only Yoda in the new trilogy. The fear that Yoda puppet had been replaced through the original trilogy as well can now be put to rest, as we know that he has not been.

A couple of the changes, like the new rocks in front of R2-D2 just seem like odd and unnecessary changes, though not really bad for the films.
Others, like the Yoda replacement, seem like true enhancements.
But, I have a feeling that one change to Vader’s final epiphany will go down in Star Wars history as the second worst change that Lucas has made to the films over the years.

Yeah the Vader change is terrible. [mad]

Lucas is such a dumbass. How exactly would that be unnoticeable, the fact that it’s a Yoda puppet for four of the six movies, but the CG one is more realistic…yet the fact that rocks covering a droid was necessary.

He really needs to stop working. It’s not good for him. That, or make a new sci-fi movie - hey, there’s fans out there of Howard The Duck!

I just wish he’d had left all of it alone, or at least left the option there for the purists to watch the original. personally I prefer puppet yoda.

The change to yoda’s kinda cool. The rest are retarded and completely unnecessary. What he should do is undo all of the damage he’s done to his work for the sake of redemption for his credibility.

I heard a lot of people were pissed off because Lucas replaced Lambo Calripkens with a white guy (racist bastard!) and replaced his light saber with a frozen chocolate banana.

Maybe I should reconsider buying the new set. Sure beats Jar Jar Binks.

As long as he doesn’t replace Nien Nunb. That dude is a straight up OG pimp.

I hate Star Wars and wish all of those star ships would explode in the opening scenes of the very first movie and be done with it all.

But…but…you grew up in the 70’s.

You were there maaaaaaaaan!!!

You were there when Kiss went disco and when Patti Smith was ugly.

You were there.

I believe Carmangary was over the age of 12 when Star Wars came out. If you already progressing through puberty in 1977, it didn’t effect you quite as much as if (like me) you were still in single digits at the time.

He was BOSS! Back from when I was a kid, I still have a toy millennium falcon with little toy pieces. Nien Nunb was one of them. But seriously, it mostly bum me out because I actually want these on disc, but I can’t do that if i’m constantly thinking WTF. Sounds like a waste of cash.

Fan edits are the only way to go now with the Star Wars Trilogy. Check out Star Wars Revisited by Adywan (easy to find online). It’s the best version of Episode IV I’ve ever seen, and the only one I’ll bring myself to watch now. The film is full of visual FX and sound improvements, but the extended Death Star battle at the end is the proverbial money shot.

His Empire upgrade comes out in November (some of it is up on YouTube).

Seriously, though. Will have to check out this fanedit, I looked at the link and it seems like homeboy nailed it…

Dildo, is that an actual Lucas quote?

Yes it is.

Wonder if these guys know each other?

Dildo, is that an actual Lucas quote?

The second one is as well.

Fuck this half-assed release; I’ll wait for the blu-ray in 3D set that will surely come out after the theatrical rererererereleases - now with 30% more rocks, just as Lucas always intended.

I still have a hard time grasping the fact that he tries to justify all of these changes as better. The remastering work, great. A few new things, sure.

I can honestly say that I like “some” of the newer additions like shadow effects underneath landspeeders, etc. But things like the zarlac pit, which became something hardly resembling a pit, Gredo shooting first (which made no sense to change, really), the horrible song/scene of that alien singing in jabba’s palace. It goes on.

And I actually looked at the customer reviews on amazon. I’d guess about 80-90% of them are all negative. Part of me almost caved and bought the set too… I feel better knowing that I didn’t.
