I’m wondering what the hell got into these Arab countries as of late.

they got tired of tyranny. good for them

After 15-something years, sudden social unrest? There’s more than meets than the eye.

I agree now if only iraq could to take up that kind of passion!

Yeah man, that’s it. good riddance!

To those “old stone-age men in chairs”.

I grew up in Bahrain so this should be interesting. In fact, that’s where this site, prongs.org, got started …

You think the people are going to get what they want or just a new dictatorship will spring up? I remember once democracy came to russia they couldn’t handle it and many of the citizens were trying to vote it out!. At least that’s what was reported.

Tunisia dropped when I was in UAE, then when I was in Bahrain Egypt was coming to a full boil. This was all hot topic conversation everywhere and some of my business partners (Indians) in Manama mentioned that they thought Bahrain might see some unrest as well, but I thought they were nuts.

I’m most surprised to hear talk of Kuwait. It is very interesting timing and I would not expect the Kuwaitis (I’m referring to native Kuwaiti Citizens) to rock the boat one bit. The Kuwaitis get really cushy government jobs and work about an hour a day four days a week. But this year is even better for them . . .

2011 is a huge yearlong national celebration for Kuwait. 50-20-5. Fifty years of independence from UK, 20 years liberation from Saddam Hussein, and 5 year anniversary of current Emir’s ascension to the throne. So, as “party favors” the Emir gave to EVERY Kuwaiti (whether one day old or 100 years old) all essentials (food, etc.) provided for 14 months. Also, he gave them each 1000 KWD (about $4000 US).

When you get paid by an oil-rich leadership to just sit around and get fat, you don’t typically think about crap like democracy and whatnot.

It’s actually inspiring, to see this kind of emotion…on the other hand I really hope no one gets hurt, but…

It’s the thought behind it that is nuts. It’s starting to go in waves, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain…

I’m looking into getting Kuwait citizenship asap.

Even China’s getting in on the act.

Wow![shocked] these are some really exciting times we live in right now! It only took what? 15 years since the mass marketing of the internet. You knew it was bound to happen. You can’t keep people down with that much information floating around… I know those places have censored internet but there are always people that know how to get around that stuff. Can’t wait to see what happens next. Don’t the christians believe this is one of the signs of end times? Peace in the middle east and what not? Then the mayan 2012 prediction… maybe this should be on the conspiracy thread!

Well reporters have been hurt. Anderson cooper got hit in the head 10 times and another female reporter was sexually assualted… don’t know if that means raped or just groped.

It’s not nuts; this happened in Bahrain when I was 14 too, now I am 33. It’s always been happening but now, thanks to the Internet, it’s out there now. You see, the majority Shia population there do not have rights from the ruling Sunny Al Khalifa family. They never could join the Police or Army when I was there, or even key positions within the Government. They couldn’t even get permanent passports. It was very oppressive for them there and they stood by watching a tonne of foreigners taking the jobs and what not. We were there are foreigners too and therefore had more rights than them!

Maybe I’m biased, but I’m a little surprised by the relatively low coverage of the protests here in Wisconsin. Anyone else following it?

Rodney Dangerfield, ladies and gentlemen.

Reports coming out of Libya are pretty disturbing . . .

The unrest is spreading like wild fire.
