Well looky looky at number 54
Just how many freaking bassists have Morbid Angel had anyway?
Just how many freaking bassists have Morbid Angel had anyway?
more than are on this list actuallyā¦
but how the fuck does christian from Fear Factory get on here? he only plays bass on 1 and a half albums, and they are the boring ones! dino played all the bass on the early stuff, and he wasnt in the band for mechanizeā¦
though it is a nice thing to see the same three bassists on EVERY list of bassists ever on the top of this one, i would have had a heart attack if they werent there. thats like a best band ever list without the beatles, or a best songs ever list without stairway.
(i am winking)
That looks like a silly list to me. Paul DāAmour played on an EP and one LP and he gets 60? Iām not saying heās a bad bass player but it seems like they just want to throw bass players from bands they like into the mix as opposed to notable bass players.
No Ben from Godflesh is just stupid.
No Raven or Youth?
Not even a mention of Pete Steele or even even that chick from White Zombie.

well to be fair, hermes pan as a bass player is neither innovative nor super-technical nor melodic and not that well-known, thereās really nothing special about his bass lines in ministry or ussa. since that is a bass player list (and those lists are always kind of b.s. anyway) and not list of āoverall as musicianā, its doesnāt really matter.
if you look into ministry bass guitar parts and start playing them, youāre gonna be bored fast. then again, thereās hardly any room for anything special bass-wise in ministry songs, so he did his stuff perfectly in the limits of the genre ministry (or any side project) was in.
heās great sound-wise though and for me thereās alot of his shining moments. ātonight we murderā, playing on top of synth bass, as well as āwe believeā (live version only). tons of really ugly tones on filth pig/dark side/animositisomina tracks.
my favourite paul bass line is probably āstepā, especially the extended version that was never released, itās just outrageous. favourite ābarkerā-ish track is probably āleperā, just because it has 2 different bass tracks playing at the same time (one droning and other is the main cannibal song type variation in the first half of the song) and the atmosphere they create and then in second half itās full on distorted with some neat slides here and there.
his tones and parts define classic revco albums for me (bsq and lfg), as well as some other side projects, they were fukinā pumping, and aināt that the goal? we all have seen what ministry and revco turned into since his departure in 2004. so i guess unlike some guy (that we all know) once said āhe was just a fuckinā bass playerā, thatās not the case.
besides, he was the only guy with super cool looking ribcage bass !!
Paulās basslines are great BECAUSE theyāre simple.
Stainless Steel Providers is two notes, but itāll get stuck in your head as firmly as any pop vocal hook. Thatās why heās on there.
Agreed, one of the reason I love Paulās bass playing in Ministry is itās extremely stripped down and still pulls a great line thru each track.
And this list is total shit, yes.
Twiggy Ramirez (Marilyn Manson) should def. be on that list/

Gila, you need to listen to the bassline of Creep and soak it in. Also, Golden Dawnās bass is incredible. LORAH needs to get remastered cause I want to hear that fuckinā bass.

i think you didnāt soak in what i actually wrote about bass parts defining classic revco albums for me. its funny how you mention creep and get down since they both have a loop of one bar (or maybe two bars) for 8 and 13 minutes but both track end suddenly thus creating this nice hypnotic effect but when they end suddenly you wake up.
as for lorah, original master is fine. you wonāt hear much bass guitar there cuz most of the album is actually synth bass. and its perfectly audible⦠except fukkin hizbollah but its supposed to be like that and the bridge section in the missing i cant really figure out. if that album would be remastered today it would be one compressed brickwall ā¦

I donāt know man. Barker being in Ministry had a huge influence on industrial rock. The Al and Paul due was pretty influential Iād say.

Whoa!!! Check this out! The Smurf is schooling Voidhead on Mansonology! Iām just surprised heās doing it so non-chalantly and not firing off flare guns and sticking his ass in Voidās face while doing it. Is this the beginning of a new era? The kinder, gentler Smurf? I sure frigginā hope not!
Itās nice to see Jeff Becerra of Possessed and Necrobutcher of Mayhem get some recognition but I call bullshit on this list for one reason:
WHERE THE FUCK IS LEMMY!!!
Also, they had no right in putting Tyr from Emperor on that list. The guy was only a live member. If your gonna put any bassist from Emperor on there it should be Ihsahn.

Lemmy is at 36 (after a bunch of nobody douchebags). I really donāt give a crap. Itās a crap list put together by some piece of crap who doesnāt know crap about crap. Crap.

Only one bass player from Emperor ever mattered.
YES!!! I LOVE Mortiis!!! I didnāt even know he played bass. I just love him on account of his straight up awesomeness. I mean . . . LOOK AT THIS!!! I frigginā LOVE this guy!
He has a skull on his crotch and he has wings and he flies . . . I rest my case. Anyone who doesnāt like Mortiis should be tortured with the torture of a thousand swords.
