Leonard Cohen Dead at 82

Liked his tunes on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. Concrete Blonde (1990) cover of Everybody Knows is a good one too.

Very sad news, he truly was a great poet and songwriter.

My all time favorite is “Everybody Knows”, which I first heard on the “Pump Up the Volume” movie. And yes, the tracks on Natural Born Killers, which prompted me to buy “The Future”, which is a fantastic album.

Hopefully 2016 is done with depressing news.

Yeah this is a sad one for me and more indicative that 2016 is a sick evil bitch…

Cohen was an immensely gifted and talented man…a huge loss for music…

Can you imagine the 18 million shitty cover of ‘Hallelujah’ that are about to be unleashed on the world now that Cohen has passed…as if there weren’t enough shitty versions of that song…want to hear a great Cohen cover? Check out masterful Greg Dulli(Afghan Whigs,Twilight Singers)doing ‘Paper Thin Hotel’…now that’s a fucking cover…

I saw this news yesterday. Sad day. I had no idea he was sick. I knew he was up there in age but still sad to hear.
I’m Your Man was the first album i’d heard from him and its excellent. Various Positions is great too. If It Be Your Will has to be one of the saddest fuckin songs ive ever heard.
The concrete blonde studio cover of everybody knows is, in my opinion, not good i’d even go so far to say its terrible… but this… this live acoustic rendition from 120 Minutes is gold.

I wrote this assholish FB status this morning, but then opted not to post it as I remembered it was Veterans Day and would rather do something respectful for them. But . . . anyway . . . yeah . . . sorry. Since it won’t be employed on FB, I may as well share it here.

HEY EVERYONE!!! GREAT NEWS!!!
Leonard Cohen died.

Oh, dang, I mean, yeah, it sucks that he died and everything, but isn’t this the semi-celebrity death you all need to distract you from everything else and focus all your emotions onto someone that you might not have ever even listened to but are pretty sure is culturally significant somehow?

Come on, y’all! Let’s roll back the clock to 2015 and get back to emoting about stuff that really matters! Artists and icons that we may or may not have ever paid attention to while they were alive.

Stop grieving for America. America is alive. But Leonard . . . oh, he’s really dead. And that means something.

I will be available for grief counseling and to help with the distribution of candles for the vigil and bootleg Jack Daniels style t-shirts.

A lot of truth there unfortunately…pretty much happens with every big musical death…people claim to be huge fans but ask them to name more than 2 songs and :crickets:…

I popped out of the womb listening to Dylan and Cohen(and many others of that ilk),as my dad was a huge fan…

I’m a mixed fan of his. I don’t really like anything of his after the 70s. But I really love those albums from the 60s and 70s. He was extremely influencial and left a huge mark in music.

This was probably his best song:

RIP Leonard.

I’ve listened to a lot of Cohen over the years, read one of his novels and loved his interest in zen. I had just read a lengthy interview he did a few months ago where he talked about how his oncoming death. It’s a tough read:
