Lead Into Gold videoclip on youtube

It means he memorizes finger positions on the fretboard but if you gave him some notes, he wouldnt be able to play them on the guitar.

learning notes on fretboard doesn’t take much time (in fact it’s very easy) and since he’s doing music like what - since 1988 i think he knows it a little more and better than “by memory of the finger positions of 3 power chords”.

but if you mean that he can’t read the notation, that may be. but who can read the notation/scores nowadays among the popular alternative rockers? 1% at best.

then again he must know how to read the notations because he studied piano for two years or something.

Yeah he’s classically trained so I find it hard to believe he can’t read sheet music. On the other hand I will vouche for the fact that even he acknowledges his poor guitar skills.

He is a keyboardist/programmer/songwriter/vocalist first and foremost

And almost all of the Industrial Metal genre is characterized by simple guitar parts and lack of technical prowess.

I mean that track “Faster Than Light” doesn’t even have a fucking proper bridge!! Hahahaha the instruments just drop out and let the drum machine play that same beat for a few bars before coming back in…

That is why when people who think Ministry or whateevr is God try to hate on NIN or Manson I just laugh because let’s face it: none of this music is “highbrow” “complex” or “experimental”.

It simply takes ideas from Industrial and applies melody and conventional song structure and other pop elements to them to make them commercially viable.

Jourgensen, Reznor etc… Their careers have been largely a step backwards from an experimental perspective. They didn’t advance Industrial music in any way, they simply brought it back into the same rock n’ roll context it had been rebelling against in the first place…

[reply]Manson also said Pailhead is one of his favourite acts of all time.
Interesting…I suppose he has good taste.[/reply]

Mechanical Animals is in my top 20. Great video, btw. This is the reason I hang out here - ecliectic taste in members, and good info. Cheers.

Yeah I guess Reznor would be really stupid not to know how to play the guitar now, after all these years… But back in the early 90s, he really didnt know how to play it.

thanx for the video , damn great song [cool]
