Just to be clear, I didn’t’ leak this, someone else did here. I took the files and corrected the pitch and tempo issues and gave them some mastering love. The source files were in mono, so nothing i could do about that. Enjoy
I found them on the web. I didn’t create them. I have no idea who uploaded them originally.
I kinda hoped it’d prod a higher quality copy out but whatever, maybe someday!
Since Wax Trax has been blowing out all the old promo’s at the pop-up store etc, and it’s been available on ebay (where the artist sees nothing) I don’t feel bad about sharing 128k MP3s on a fan board.
I (at least) appreciate your extra effort jdn. Thanks, they sound much better.
I can only do so much with the source files…I do have an excellent turntable and great way to import digitally…now if someone could just get me a copy of the vinyl, i could really work wonders [:)]…haha. The tempo and pitch wasn’t really that far off and the files were in mono, so aside from brining them up to contemporary loudness and some EQ sweetening, mainly on the low end, not much else i could do with these.
Thanks for that, excellent.
Yeah, thanks!
You’re a giant on the earth.
Thanks.
Awesome. My buddy was telling me about a plugin he has called “stereo enhancer” or “stereo widener”, something like that. Takes the mono mix, duplicates it panned left and right, and offsets them by a tiny fraction of a second to give you a faux stereo experience. Might be worth a go if you get bored.

i don’t like that pseudo stereo stuff at all, there are ways to enhance the stereo imaging if it had some stereo content, but it’s just mono so aside from doing what you suggest, which i don’t think sounds good, nothing i can do. I’m just glad it’s finally out there for people to hear and the mastering i did makes it sound contemporary(volume and eq) and gives people a chance to hear the songs. If you want perfect, get me a vinyl copy or pay $700 for one…hahahaha
So, what does everyone think of these tracks anyway?
No doubt, it’s awesome that a couple of our homies have put in the work to enable people to finally hear these $700 songs, but I’m curious what anyone thinks of them.
I think they’re both very cool, consistent and fit in with the rest of the LIG catalog.
Agreed. Cry Baby especially.
My only complaint is it’s ‘Low and Slow’ - So I had to fix some tags.[:P]
I agree that the songs are solid but not really single material - altho Cry Baby has a better music hook, Sweetest Kiss has a decent chorus IMO.

How did you match the tempo if you never heard these tunes?
Lunatic/Genius is a remix, and it was supposed to be at the same tempo as the original commercially released version. I used that as a reference to calculate the difference, assuming all the songs were slightly the wrong tempo in the same way. I used Varispeed elastic Audio in Pro Tools, so it changed the pitch and tempo relative.
Lunatic Genius sounds like a rip off of Jack and Diane when it starts.
Exactly what I was thinking.
Barker’s pitch and tuning are all over the place in those songs. It’s pretty comical how bad it is although I am assuming that he does it on purpose to make himself sound psychotic and edgy.
Yes, this is especially noticeable when he has no chorus FX on his voice. Although it is a really appropriate voice for this kind of music; it would sound venomous and cynical even if he was singing about raising golden retriever puppies. And forms a nice contrast on the more pompous-sounding L.I.G. tracks like “Idiot” or the mock-Roman coliseum feel of “The Stripper.”
I think these tracks could all use an extra layer of instrumentation, be it orchestra hits or jittery arpeggiated synth or what have you. There are some good ideas in each song but nothing that feels complete.
Oh, and of course thanks to JDN for these remasters (or should this be spelled rem-ASS-ters in the grand Al tradition of ‘remiXXX?’)

Cool, I figured you used the remix as a starting point.
Sweetest Kiss is a damn solid track. Pounding percussion, twangy guitar, those subtle pads during the chorus (2:40, 4:28). 10/10, quick shipping, recommended seller, would buy again.
Crybaby is OK. It plods along a little slowly. Tomasz mentioned adding some more elements to the tracks, Crybaby could’ve used a little of that.
The intro on the Lunatic/Genius remix is totally Jack and Diane. It is a decent remix, it has a good build up to the synth pattern that comes in around 2:22 and continues until the end, but it isn’t very different from the original track.
Good stuff, glad to finally hear it. Sweetest Kiss is the strongest track of the three.
Downloaded. Thanks very much. Fucking loved it!!
