Lead Into Gold - Cocksure remix

Sounds like kind of a mess to me…

Edit:
Here’s the tracklisting for the comp. it’s from.

It’s weird. It almost sounds like two songs are being played at the same time that have no business being mashed together. I kind of like the crusty doomy undertones, but then they layer on a bunch of dogshit Qbert beeps and tweaked out vocals that don’t match up with the “beat” (yes, quote marks necessary).

I feel like this might have been something cool if they didn’t try so hard to be edgy and weird or challenge our pedestrian ears and just kept with a single idea/theme.

No, I couldn’t listen to the whole thing through. I just skipped through a few parts.

Just sounds like the vocal track is all fucked up. Everything else sounds ok.

kinda a hard listen, but then again, they have never shy’d away from that.

I picked up the comp as a LiG completist and thought while listening “I wish I waited to hear it on YouTube first, then I’d never have bought this.”

Are any of the other tracks any good?

There’s some decent stuff, but nothing that really blew me away. The FLA and Cocksure remixes were alright, probably my favorite bit was High Functioning Flesh. I can’t see listening to it regularly. YMMV of course.

It’s ok. Not phenomenal, but not terrible. Remixes are always kind of samey. I think people often overdo it when making remixes: different beat, tonnes of effects on everything, etc. when something more subtle might actually be more interesting. Generally computers have made remixes less interesting, because everyone approaches the remix situation with the same bag of tricks and you end up getting a lot of remixes that sound pretty samey.

The remixes I tend to like are either those that take a more subtle approach to the original song, changing some things to show the original idea in a new light, OR remixes that use elements of a song to make a completely new song that stands on its own rather than just being a wacky version of the original.

…Actually that puts it better: Too many remixes are just wacky versions of the original. And that’s really easy to do with protools, cubase, etc. And it doesn’t really hold my interest, because generally what you end up with is just a worse version of the original, rather than something interesting or unique.

Agreed on all points there, Dumbass!

Also kinda bullshit that someone who has produced as much material as Prurient is represented by a previously released track from a relatively common release.
