Does anyone know what gear is used to give that fuzzy bass sound in Lay Lady Lay? I have been listening to that lately and it has just about convinced me to buy another bass. Actually, I am thinking about making one from one of those kits in the Grizzly woodworking catalogs. That way I can super customize the finish.

Not sure what Paul is using there, but for bass distortion I would recommend DOD’s Supra Distortion pedal. It’s actually made for guitar rather than bass but IMO the pedal is pretty awful for guitar distortion yet works great for bass. You can find these pedals pretty cheaply if you look around.
