Hahahaha…that was hilariously bad. What a sad way to end a series that was groundbreaking and entertaining right up until the end for the most part.

Thought the last few seasons were down hill…the finale is universally reviled…a total steaming pile…
It was really fuckin’ bad. You could tell the writers just didn’t give a shit anymore. A fuckin logger?! Are you serious? No direction, no inspiration just fuckin’ stupid.

The first four seasons were fantastic. After that the series was still enjoyable but went downhill. Season 6 was memorable and had a great ending.
But yeah, this series deserved a better ending. I would have been ok if they didn’t show him surviving. It would have been fitting for him and Deb to be buried at sea.
None of the side characters got a cool or satisfying end, they were just there as filler, nothing more. There were no consequences or additional hurdles for Dexter or Deb when she bumped off LaGuerta, just her breaking down over it. The police work got really sloppy as the show went a long and it was convenient for Dexter, because he was getting sloppier.
The finale left so many holes in the story and didn’t really resolve anything.
agreed. What was the point of mazuka’s daughter? just to keep him “relevant” in the series? As far as I’m concerned the Lithgow season was the pinnacle and the Jimmy Smitz season was the worst. not counting this last lazy season, of course.

4 was the last season that even attempted to be well written.
that said, i have enjoyed watching Dexter in passing, mostly because it is so… hopelessly bad that it actually surprises you with some of the plot twists. haha.
i couldnt stand the actress who played Deb, she was unwatchable and was one of the least believable actresses i have ever seen. also, the guy who played Joey Quinn was a fairly terrible actor, save for the final episode, he had a few good moments there. and a few spotty nice moments while he was in love with that stripper.
Spoiler Alert
the thing that let me down most about the finale was that when we see dex alive again, i really wanted him to either be walking into a kill room, or to walk into his house and see Harry sitting there waiting for him.
Wow, that was harsh. That’s the worst review I’ve read of Dexter since perusing the the trolls at the IMDB Dexter boards. “…Attempted to be well written” It’s not like it had devolved into the horribleness that weeds turned in to or the horribleness that Californication has turned in to. it was clearly the consistently best of the showtime shows save for season 2 (? the smitz season) and this final season.

Simple case of them not realizing it’s the final season until the last couple episodes. Not a bad season, but certainly not so great either.

the Jimmy Smits season was season 3. and its funny, that might actually be my favorite of the seasons. possibly barring the first.
i love his season because it is VERY real, and he does an amazing job as a man who is exposed to an amoral entity, who wants to use said entity for a moral purpose. of course the moral corruption he suffers as that season goes on and he finds himself becoming alltogether toooo comfortable flirting with amorality eventually rots him down to a position of immorality. i thought that season was really well done.
but i mean, after the Lithgow season the show just seemed to be… coasting. just grabbing up a new ‘special’ killer each season, throwing away a few one-off killers, and then dangling Dexter in front of Deb/Batista/LaGuerta/Whothefuckever with a little ‘oh no! dex! they are gonna see you! go out the back door nooooooow!’ action thrown in.
that said, the guy who played Batista (who you may remember, and LOVE from OZ) was consistently good on screen, and for the most part Michael C Hall did a wonderful job. but, really, i felt like the writers just stopped showing up after the 4th season.
oh wait, i actually really liked the development that deb thought she was in love with dex. that was a REALLY good idea, and again very rooted in real psychology. however… they way it was handled after the 6th season was a waste.

I don’t remember too much from it other than it was really slow and predictable. there wasn’t much of a build up. I don’t care to rewatch it. I think smitz started out corrupted from the beginning and just slowly kept showing us the same episode over and over again.

I’ll completely agree with this.

He grew on me. (I’ve never seen OZ) I could not stand him the first couple of seasons. that lisp probably had something to do with it, but as his character developed he became one of my favorites on the show. The comic relief that was mazuka was great too.
and for the most part Michael C Hall did a wonderful job.
yeah, Hall did a great job of taking fantastic situations and making them believable
but, really, i felt like the writers just stopped showing up after the 4th season.
Agreed, very autopilot, but not completely horrible. Just … … … Lazy.

I thought it was kind of weak and trying to capitalize on a few other shows that were dabbling in incest, but again not a horrible idea just lazy.

yeah, he started out corrupted, but only in that he was a human working in the realm of ‘justice’ through the state. he was crushed and beaten down by the general ineffectiveness and apathy of the ‘justice’ system in america, and so in that way, yeah he was already corrupted. but i liked that about him. he was a real person, wrestling with real demons, and then once he saw the face of amorality, he changed.
i have always loved when media deals with the difference between amorality and immorality.
Yeah, I think he was the extremely dark side of “the ends justifying the means.” Probably a pretty accurate portrayal of a real politician. you know that old saying, “the road to hell is paved in good intentions.” Just seemed like an easy story line with a politician.

The plot holes are kind of annoying… How does Batista, who’s retiring, all of a sudden become lieutenant? Matthews, who was forced into retirement from being captain, all of a sudden returns as deputy chief? I’d say it’s very half-assed.

Mathews extorted laguerta to get back in if I remember right.
And Batista… not sure how he got back but it was explained away.

think he was just trying to get his pension back.
