I haven’t posted for a long time but I felt compelled to after staying up last night until midnight to listen to my AutoRip of Killing Joke’s new album emailed to me from Amazon with the release of Pylon.
I got the “Deluxe” edition of the album and man I gotta say I think the new album is incredible. I listened to it under a great pair of headphones in the dark which may have helped with the atmosphere. The deluxe edition has an extra disc with about 5 or 6 extra songs. Now usually these extra disc versions tend to be filler…but IMHO this material is just as essential as the disc 1 material…so if you’re going to buy this I’d recommend grabbing the deluxe.
I guess Jaz is still singing about the usual stuff which is fine by me as I’ve always liked his voice and don’t really care too much about lyrics with my Rock’n’Roll as I’m more interested in the music…and man the music on this …the music on it is glorious.
This album absolutely wins by a giant KO if I’m comparing it t their last 2 albums with the OG members.
I haven’t been this excited to sit through an album a 2nd time for a looooooong time.
What’s up,Akbar…nice to you see you check in with an update on the mighty KJ…I haven’t heard this yet but am definitely looking forward to it…and even moreso seeing them down here in a small club in January…
Nice one, thanks for the enthusiastic and knowledgeable review! I wanted to preorder it but overspent this month, i’ll definitely order the 2-disc when i get paid. It was streaming a track per day on their FB page, but i want to hear the album for the first time as it was meant to be heard, not one song a day.
Akbar, welcome back. It’s nice to see posts about music again.
I’m really excited about this one. I’ve really liked the stuff they’ve done since the original lineup got back together. (Though I should say I liked the other stuff too.) I’m waiting for Portland (USA) tickets to go on sale. Looking forward to the tour.
I’m enjoying it so much I’m strongly considering dropping $100 for the VIP tickets when they come to Dallas in Jan. The VIP includes a ticket to the show, meet the band, photo op, a signed tour poster and sit in for sound check.
Still need to buy it, dammit! I really enjoyed the s/t from '03 and most of Hossanas (it was suffocating in a good way, and I can’t get over how brilliant Judas Goat is). I really wanted to love Absolute Dissent and MMXII, but they are both hit-and-miss in content, and severely hurt by the modern day bad mastering, to which its continuing existence still confounds me to this day.
