KILLING JOKE - "Endgame" free download and tour dates

Has anybody heard the new Killing Joke ep ‘In Excelsis’??

It’s actually really good.

Really good.

Colour me amazed.

Good to hear mate!

I’ve purchased the double 10" vinyl version. There’s only 1000 and they come with the cd too…you should pick up the vinyl version Peligro.

I haven’t yet heard the EP but expect it to arrive in the next few days…

Apparently it’s not available in the States yet.
Not on iTunes, mp3.amazon, or emusic anyway.

Oh sweet, forgot this was out. Downloading now. You can get 5 songs from itunes across the pond (songs available for individual download)

quick review:

first track (production is rougher on it for some reason) harkens to the mid-80s anthem-ish material

second track (the freebie) was more along the political-punk-metal lines of both early and recent KJ

third track - reminds me of the more 90s Youth bassed Demo/Pand lp material, short and poppy

fourth cut - even w/o the remix this is more dub than any KJ song in years, less aggression than in the early years but this track is working for me- even tho Jaz’s vox here come across a bit odd at the open anyway

Call Akbar a prophet - if this is the ‘throwaways’ I’m really pumped for the full LP now.

Am pleased with what I hear so far. There’s a subtle but stable synth backing to the first and fourth songs. It’s distinct from the recent albums which were quite blunt. The lyrics from what I can make out are fairly simple but who cares.

Agree with Elric assertion on Akbar the Prophet that we should be stoked for the full album.

sounds good to me. My wife thinks she’s heard the track In Excelsis before. Anybody have a clue?

Is this where you got it from. Am a bit wary ordering from there - or from ANYWHERE associated with Killing Joke as I have heard SO many horror stories on the Killing Joke forum regarding how unscrupulous and inefficient the band and anyone around the band is (ie fans swearing they’ll never order from them again, gigs being booked and cancelled at the last minute, albums being announced but then not promoted by the label and then suddenly not appearing etc).

Anyway, as someone else has said, if these are the ‘offcuts’ then bring on the new album because this stuff is fucking choice material - and suddenly I’m excited about new Killing Joke material for the first time ever.

The full LP will be fantastic.

Akbar isn’t a prophet…you don’t have to be a prophet to know the original KJ line-up is going to create a kick-ass LP…ESPECIALLY if you were lucky enough to catch them live in late 2008.

The new LP and tour in support of it will be special indeed.

I’m liking this new ep.

Massive relief really. I was listening to Democracy the other day and thinking to myself this is where it all started to go wrong…this was really the beginning of the end

Now I’m feeling alot more positive about The Joke once more.

Aaah fuckit…think I’ll just wait for the new album official in September and pick up the ep on ebay at some later stage.

Been listening to my old Killing Joke cds over the weekend.

EP’s awesome. I was whatever about Endgame when we all first heard it. Seemed like it got mixed reviews. It mixes in pretty well with the other songs though.

Got the EP today and everything seems fine. Infact the EP is a little beauty!

Only heard the EP once so far but I very much like what I hear…they’ve captured that classic original primitive Killing Joke sound perfectly. The LP is going to rule!

I like this song quite a bit. Sounds reminiscent of different eras of their past but has enough of its own personality to sound like they’re comfortable trying new sounds, which makes me anticipate the new album even more. The percussion has a deceptively sloppy feel to it that gives it an aggressive swagger that’s been largely absent since I guess the last time Big Paul drummed for them. Really liking the soaring chorus too.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I really enjoyed most of Hosannas. Thought it was an unexpected digression from the comparitively clean sounding KJ '03 and the longer song formats didn’t really bother me at all. Some of Geordie’s riffs on that one just wipe the floor and I think “Implosion”, the title track and “Walking With Gods” are some of the bands best.

New EP’s incredible. For Hosannas, there’s probably three tracks on there that I like; Hosannas, Implosion, and Majestic. The rest is all the same thing over and over again.

Ditto

The song In Excelsis is brilliant…after a few listens that song really stands out for some reason.

Anybody care to share this?
Apparently they’ve decided Americans shouldn’t be allowed to get a digital copy.

I’ve been keeping an eye out for In Excelsis at local CD stores, but I haven’t seen it yet. I’m not sure if that’s because it isn’t out yet in Canada, or if Killing Joke simply isn’t popular enough for stores to automatically stock it. Actually, this is what the Killing Joke webpage says:

“Titled the ‘In Excelsis’ EP, the record will be exclusively available as a double coloured vinyl 10” from online UK retailer What Records (www.whatrecords.co.uk); a CD version of the EP – complete with bonus dub Remix – will also be included with the package, and there will be a separate digital format, too.”

So is the CD format sold exclusively in a bundle with the 10" from What Records UK, or should it be possible to also buy the CD individually at regular stores? I think they could have been a little less confusing about that.

I’m not sure?

I did however buy the vinyl and burned the cd on itunes then listed it on ebay yesterday seeing as I’d never listen to it again due to having the vinyl…it sold in about 30 seconds flat after I listed it…so I imagine it probably isn’t at stores. Maybe I should have charged more for it! hahaha
