Just picked this up the other day and it’s pure dirty funky-ass greasy gangster blues voodoo rock of the highest order!
For those not in the know Kid Congo is the legendary guitarist who’s past bands include Nick Cave’s Bad Seeds, The Cramps and he was also a founding member of The Gun Club so you know what type of sounds to expect within.
This is his 2nd Pink Monkey Birds album and what a fonky bad-ass record it is!
Check out the music on their myspace below and below that is a short review courtesy of Soundsxp.

“Kid Congo Powers has 30 years of cool on his CV. He founded the Gun Club with Jeffrey Lee Pierce, was part of the seminal Cramps line-up in the Psychedelic Jungle/ Smell of Female era, played guitar for the Bad Seeds and has backed The Make Up, Mark Eitzel and Diamanda Galas among others. He’s now on his second album with the Pink Monkey Birds, serving up an incredible feast of voodoo garage rock. It’s full of predatory guitars playing messed up garage, surf and funk rhythms, which remind me of Bo Diddley (‘Funky Fly’ is a cover of a minor Bo tune) and the Dirtbombs. He can go from funky rapping to a sinister, dark-end-of-the-street monologue on ‘Late Nite Scurry’, the Kid’s voice filled with the sort of world-weary character you only develop having been on tour with the Gun Club, Cramps, Bad Seeds, etc. The other cover is ‘I Found A Peanut’, a repetitive kids’ song that was turned into a monster anthem by Chicano band Thee Midnighters in the mid-60s, and is here given the full Nuggets style by the Pink Monkey Birds. Dracula Boots is another great release for In The Red, packed will killer juju rhythms and oozing with spooky cool.”
