Kick ass albums - Smashing Pumpins - Siamese Dream

Another major feat about Siamese Dream: Billy wrote and performed most of the main instruments on the record (with the exception of the drums).

although i could never get over the vocals, one thing I always thought the Pumpkins were good at is creating a powerful, layered guitar sound. This is seperate from their songwriting abilities (which I dont really want to discuss here), I am merely talking about how the guitars are recorded and engineered into sounding really textured. From an engineering point of view it is definitely impressive and sounds good. For this reason, I usually dont mind if someone is playing the heavier Smashing Pumpkins songs to me.

Well said, this is what I was trying to get at. It’s a thick, heavy, pulsating sound that not any schmuck can pull out of his ass without a little talent.

Seems like according to Billy; siamese dream, adore, machina and zeitgeist were all mainly him. He doesn’t seem to credit Iha and D’arcy much at all, particularly for the Adore album. The last album was terrible (but good live versions), but it had moments. Maybe it’ll take one bad album to shake the rust off. But either way, some of the best music i’ve heard is from the pumpkins.

anyone here ever heard of Starla? It’s a b-side from the SD era, but easily one of their best tracks to date.

uhm one bad album? what about zwan and his solo cd?
