Kendrick Lamar good kid m.A.A.d city

Man I’m excited about this young cat…ok so I was kind of late to his output simply because I switched off immediately when I heard he had cameos on albums by The Game and 50 Cent among other lame ducks of the Hip Hop industry. Also I had heard one of his tunes from his first major label LP good kid m.A.A.d city was to feature Lady Gaga??? Thankfully that did not happen as I can’t even begin to imagine how she could’ve complemented that said tune “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe”…thankfully the bitch didn’t kill that vibe! hahaha…

ANYWAY…I recently just decided to buy the record good kid m.A.A.d city…and after two or three listens under the headphones it shot straight into my top 3 fave Hip Hop albums ever released. The kid is miles ahead and the album is incredible…which is kind of strange because I had listened to a few songs on youtube and they honestly didn’t do much for me. I think that was down to a lot of hype around this cat and in particular the album. But like I said…after a few spins the whole album really pulls you in…I just LOVE it. It is an instant future classic record and if you like Hip Hop you should DEFINATELY look into this cat.

good kid m.A.A.d city is actually his 3rd album…he released two indy albums which are only available via download on iTunes. I have just purchased those on iTunes because as far as I’m concerned he deserves the money. From what I gather though maybe not…I assume he’s already a millionaire as he’s selling SHIT LOADS of records…the difference being the majority of million sellers ESPECIALLY in the Hip Hop industry tend to make rather lame records.

This guy is friggin great.

I was reading a review for one of his earlier albums and came across this…

“Lamar annexes awareness and thoughtfulness. Last April at The Shrine in Chicago, Lamar took out a wooden stool in the middle of his set, sat and reminisced with the audience about growing up with parents who hailed from Chicago and their influence on his music. He continued for a few minutes, visibly moved by nostalgia, before requesting his DJ to throw on one of his parents favorite soul tracks. For almost the entire song he danced and conducted the horns and hook with his microphone before returning to his set. This was somewhat of a watershed moment; here was a man who’d removed himself entirely from the egotism of performing to applaud both his origins as well as the significance of the city in which he performed, embracing the moment in a way I’d never seen any musician do before.”

Kendrick is my new hero and apparently he’s pretty mainstream.

Actually, she was the best thing about that song. Kendrick Lamar killed that vibe.

I also suggest Zulu Guru by Jesse Boykins III …excellent production on that.

lamar’s a cool cat. I dig some of his stuff.

Now now Eureka…stop being so anti Hippitty Hoppitty and pro wickitty wack.

What? I just thought his flow on it sucked, and I highly doubt I’m gonna like his other stuff. Everyone seems to be on his nuts kinda like how they were with Kid Cudi, and I haven’t heard shit from that guy in seemingly years. Hip Hop died with Mac Dre. Deal with it.

Hahaha…looks like someone’s on Mac Dre’s nuts. Kendrick’s flow on it is perfect and his album trumps. Kid Cudi isn’t in the same league.

Hip Hop died with Mac Dre…HAHAHAHAHA You’re in a dreamland and need to buy more records. You listening…but you ain’t hearing.

The reason Kendrick is getting a ton of hype (surprisingly) is because the kid is not only dope but because he’s put out an album that is brilliant. If you disagree then you’d be the only fan of Hip Hop that does.

I’m impressed you even know who Mac Dre is. Sorry, but that was the last hip-hop/rap that actually got me. It was something different. Now I don’t think he’s the greatest of all time, but he put out some great shit. If he hadn’t died he’d be one of the biggest right now. I could be wrong on that though. He might’ve only lasted as long as the Hyphy movement did. I know not everyone would’ve understood what he was doing.

Mac Dre was never going to be “big”. I don’t think he really gave a shit either. He was too staunch and a real indie militant. Also he made enough to get by…which was pretty easy as he spent a lot if time in prison which he shouldn’t have…but as I mentioned…this dude was staunch. His early stuff was class and if there was any justice in the world they would be lovingly reissued (Light In The Attic). His later stuff was no slouch either.

However Mac Dre and Kendrick are two very different recording artists…apart from the fact Lamar still lives. Mac had minimal resources and made maximum use of them. He was also royally screwed by the system so naturally had a real street feel about what he was doing. Kendrick on the other hand was a straight A student who happened to be brought up in Compton…although his music has slight elements of gangster in it, it is not gangster rap. Unlike Mac Dre Kendrick has maximum resources at his fingertips and makes use of it unlike a lot if big names…he actually gets creative and let’s his producers do the same.

Give good kid m.A.A.d city a go under some quality cans and you may be surprised. I know I was extremely surprised at the quality of the record…especially after a few listens.

Hip Hop will always continue…sadly most of it will be poor…BUT…every now and again something awesome will drop.
