All news outlets are saying Kanye’s debut of New Slaves last night is very 80s industrial.
Don’t know about industrial, but I did enjoy it.

EDIT: I stand corrected.
Now that stuff is real. No one knew he was going to sing those lyrics. You can’t fake this. Kanye even gets political like Ministry. Maybe Al influenced Kanye West
The first track sounds like crappy dubstep to me.
That “New Slaves” track does nothing for me. But I liked his energetic and passionate performance for the other one (“Black Skinhead”).
I dig it. I’m looking forward to the album. Gunnar is right about Black Skinhead being the standout of the two.
I just read that Skrillex is involved on the new album.
EDIT: Kanye is also from Chicago if that explains anything.

Ditto. “Black Skinhead” took me by surprise and I fucking loved it. That shit sounds way more abrasive than what I’d expect from him. That’s one thing I like about Kanye. Every album he makes is very different from his last. Even if I hate it I can respect it and it gives me more of a reason to look forward to his future stuff.
He may be an arrogant dickhead but I do respect him as an artist and do truly believe the dude has a lot of talent. He’s also got a massive set of balls to make something so aggressive (and not “guns, nigga, kill, kill, bitches” type aggressive) when his peers are such predictable clowns focused on mindless club-bangers. Just these two tracks alone could be career suicide for many artists due to how inaccessible they might be. I like it.
I’m really looking forward to his new album now. I didn’t care for his last one much. The one he did with Jay Z was pretty good too. Funny also how Kid Cudi’s newest album, in my opinion, is total shit now that Kanye isn’t helping him.
Not bad. Kanye is pretty hit or miss with me. The stuff I like, I really like, and vice versa. Black Skinhead is pretty damn cool. Not a direction I would’ve expected from it, but it’s certainly a welcomed one. And I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s slightly influenced by some of the “industrial” bands. He’s easily the more diverse of the current hip hop/rap genre though. Douchebag, or not.
Yeah yeah. 80’s industrial. blah blah blah!
I will struggle to be even remotely impressed until he starts churning out (true) 70’s industrial. A la this:

Listening to Kanye West “Black Skinhead” now. I like it, but it reminds me more of Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People” than the sort of ‘Land of Rape and Honey’ type thing I was expecting based on the comments.
Either way I agree with those showing respect for this dude because you’re right he is an innovator in a scene that does not necessarily always reward or embrace new sounds.

Hence why I said “industrial”. I absolutely hate calling bands like KMFDM industrial. They’re not. Ministry had moments, and so did Puppy, but they’re also not industrial.
That said, I do get a LORAH vibe from Black Skinhead, minus the guitar. What really came to mind were the 87 versions of All Day and Over The Shoulder. The inbetween period of Twitch and Lorah. I’ll be checking the album out when it comes out, or becomes “available”.

This.
Other than that it just sounds like hippity hoppity music.

A friend of mine thinks Kanye actually sampled The Beautiful People.
Black SkinHeads does sound like the Beautiful people from Marilyn Manson. New Slaves lyrics are powerful and beautiful, reminds me of Saul Williams sincere poetry and spoken word and work he did with NIN. At first, I thought Kanye was going to bust out with Black Stacey

In an article I read about the song they stated that he did sample part of “The Beautiful People” for it. Likely some of the drums.
This guy sucks elephantitis nuts…
It’s sad to see Kanye West’s name on prongs. It’s so sad.
The man is a turd.
