AWESOME!!! I’m stoked to see you crazy bastards again!!!
So, to answer a bunch of questions in one post:
Have I recovered financially from the last tour?
No but I’ve made strong strides. I still owe like 6k to my folks but everyone else will be paid off before this tour.
The thinking behind this tour is that we can actually make money and promote the V O I D H E A D album with one more national run before buckling down in the winter for album #2, and that’s why we’re jumping back into the fray so soon.
The dates you see advertised so far are just weekend runs, the real tour begins in earnest 11/1. We are doing this tour on our own as a headliner doing weekend runs up until 10/30 (the dates you see posted above) and then there are 25 more dates around the country that will be added with a bigger band headlining and we shifting to the opening tour slot. (Can’t say who yet but it’s not an “goth-industrial” act…we are branching into broader, muddier waters…)
This 10/30 Anaheim CA show is our only West Coast appearance of the tour. We are doing this show as a one-off out of passion. We fly out, play this show using the opening band’s gear, then fly back the next day. The promoter agreed to a small guarantee and I was like “fuck it I’ll make it happen” We have a small but strong fan base out there and I don’t want them to be neglected completely on this tour. Gonna do some fundraising and also I’ve been hustling my ass off using my van to do small moving jobs in addition to my full time job in order to generate extra cash.
This is the moment where I am quitting my full time job that I’ve been holding down as a video editor for VICE in order to do this tour and continue to expand my music career. “No Fear” is my motto. When I’m older I can always play it safe. Rgiht now is the time for big, calculated risks to pursue the kind of life I want to live.
I fucking love touring and it was the best time I’ve ever had as an adult, and I long for more of it! I believe that doing another tour now is what will separate the men from the boys so to speak and allow us to graduate to the next level more quickly. If we were on a label they’d be pushing us back out anyway.
I am going to return to freelance video editing upon return, supplemented by odd jobs in my van. I’ll make it work however I can. I may well be homeless (briefly) this time around, but I have my van. Might even just move out West after this tour as I like it better out there.
