Just got back from Grant Park

And never have I ever seen so much unity amongst people in the US. Black, hispanic, white, old, young, hippie, yuppie, etc. Remarkable. While outside, on the way to be closer, we heard enormous cheering and that confirmed it for us that he had won. There were giant TV screens everywhere as well as a huge amount of Police and Secret Service. People we jubilant, screaming, shaking hands and hugging random people. Was something to witness.

If anyone went to Lollapalooza in Chicago over the summer: imagine it was 4 times as crowded. No joke.

Now, let’s put this race issue behind us. It’s so overdone. Blacks must realize they can prosper if they want to, as Obama has done so, from very little, and whites must realize that as well and not be fearful.

Good news is, I think many agree: Age was more of an issue than race, and well, if race bothers many to this day, vast majority of Americans showed them all today: their voice is outnumbered.

Amen to that Afra. I wish I was there at Grant Park. I watched it on TV.

Afra, were there bulletproof shields around Obama? It kinda looked that way on some angles on TV.

I guess that’s the reality though…

afra, you were in a spot where during the 1968 democratic convention mess, people got beat up by cops on horseback and/or wearing riot gear.
wish i could’ve been at “that park” with you.
suffice to say, palin’s headin’ back to the outback.
peace.

I don’t think there was a glass shield. There were helicopters flying overhead and snipers on the rooftops of the buildings around us.

I meant that I saw on CNN that age was more of a concern to voters than race according to many polls.

Young people and minorities were the difference, and soon the Hispanics will be in the majority…

there was 7 feet of something to the front and sides of them for sure. but from long distance shots you couldn’t tell it was there at all.

saw jesse jackson and oprah in the front , having to squeeze like the common folk.
nice.
why don’t i live in chicago anymore.

I Liked that too!! I saw those big Plexy glass walls too and wasn’t sure if they were bullet proof shields or teleprompters! Sad as hell that we even need security like snipers in helicopters and what not to protect public officials!
I’m pretty sure it was Chicago but I liked that big ass Country map they had on the ice and were covering it with the Colors that won the state!
Late,

I guess the important thing is that now you have a smart, responsible president and not a dumb, dangerous one. Now we just have to wait and see what he can do, for now he helped to bring back the best of America and Americans, your illusion for better times, a better life, not afraid to dream, that is your strength. From this side of Atlantic I really hope they can clean the shit that was done by those neocon lunatics.

Well unless Obama IS the super dream he appears to be, this gonna take much longer than 4 years to clean up! So I can tell you already that at the end of 4 years Repubs will be saying “he was going to clean up the US (Finally ackowledging the mess W made) and here it is, 4 years later and he HAS NOT.” Funny how W gets 8 years to screw things up and Obama will only get 4 years to clean it up!! Can’t wait to see how Limbaugh is gonna spin this!
Late,

He’s already lining up Chicago politicians and giving them jobs in the Federal sector which is awesome.

The world is happy (cool video):

French waving American flags? Italians cheering loudly? Japanese school kids cheering?

They’re just happy because they hate us and they know that this is bad for America. [;)]

No doubt. [:)]

I hope Obama doesnt fail us or i’ll flame his ass. jk, this is unreal very cool. The only thing im gonna hate about this is someone is always gonna point out that he’s black, who gives a shit he better do his job we should be lightyears away from skin color.

On a side note - now that Bush is out of The Whitehouse, Michael Moore is now officially out of a job.

And good riddance I say. Now he can go back to making shitty comedies like ‘Canadian Bacon’.

Loser.

Race is only an issue if you make it. America is a great country as far as immigrants coming here and making a good life (myself included). Hispanics are doing it every day as are Polish, and as have the Irish, Italians, etc. There is a chance here if you put your head down and do it. I hope the momentum that I saw with many young and old African Americans last night (they were so pumped and ecstatic - I had never seen such happiness amongst many of their community prior. It was as if the apartheid was killed!) continues and they take matters into their own hands and excel instead of placing the blame on all other minorities and their country.

As one news outlet puts it:

… by selecting Mr Obama, Americans had made two fundamental statements about themselves: that they were profoundly unhappy with the status quo; and that they were slamming the door on the country’s racial past.

I agree - sure there may be racists out there but they’re obviously in the voting minority. And who knows - perhaps in a year or two, these people may like him. Racism usually stems from ignorance and fear, and once they see for themselves, things usually go for the better.

People should and will kill the race issue once and for all, slowly but surely. I think current young generations are way past it.

Yea hopefully this is where we rip racism’s balls off and shove’em down his throat.

Now he can go back to making shitty comedies like ‘Canadian Bacon’.

Canadian Bacon was/is funny!

Those were teleprompters not bullet proof shields. After all, they didn’t even totally shield Mr. Obama and they are also used when the State of The Union speeches are given…
