I’ve just been getting back into the High Drude by way of “Autogeddon” my favorite album by him. Anyone else into him?
Frequent Coil and Spiritualized collaborator Thighpaulsandra is all over the album. It’s a very strange record, poppy, pretty, angry, folky, hippy, krauty and lots of other stuff. I’d taken a year and a half off from it and have come back to it more impressed than ever.
I like some Cope and Teardrop Explodes. I only have the St. Julian CD from '87, which has the great ‘pop’ tune Eve’s Volcano. Interesting collaboration on that album, definitely.
I like “Jehovakill” and “Peggy” but have not gotten into either of them as much as I have the American Recordings (“Autogeddon” “20 Mothers” and “Interpreter”). I know this is a minority position and I’m sure it has a lot to do with “Autogeddon” being my first Cope album but, try as I might, the others haven’t sparked me quite as much as those three. I will have to dust them off once I’m off my trilogy kick.
Ah yes, my kraut obsession has brought me back to the man who introduced me to so many great bands, St. Julian. Listening to “Jehovakill” right now, brilliant stuff - I appreciate it more than I did when I first created this thread a few years ago. I just downloaded the two disc version of “Jehovakill” and I’m looking forward to hearing the second disc of odds ‘n’ sods. Still need to find me “Fried”.
