Joe Rogan vs. Lydia Lunch

Rogan does have that douchey fratboy thing working against him, and he’s also a crazy conspiracy theorist/9-11 truther- it’s frustrating to see what is clearly a very sharp mind working so disfunctionally and unskeptically. However, he does get points from me for his rants on DMT (I’ve never tried it, but he makes a hell of a case for it), and for consistently going after Mencia for stealing other people’s jokes.

My favorite stuff I’ve heard of Lydia’s was guest spots with Lab Report and Here. The spoken word record she did with Exene was interesting when I listened to it, but that was like thirteen years ago, if I listened to it today, I don’t know that I could stomach the whole thing. She’s for sure more than a little smug and full of herself. Proved that amply in that movie “Kill Your Idols” (same movie where Karen O. proves she’s a friggin’ idiot).

And if you don’t “get” what makes Bill Hicks such a big deal, watch the documentary “American: the Bill Hicks Story”. It’s on Netflix. He was one of a kind. This Friday would have been his 50th birthday.

And if Bill Hicks is so awesome, how come nothing he said was ever actually funny?

Hicks is pretty funny… he actually has jokes unlike dane cook or sara silverman

I don’t agree that the artists she’s worked with/hung out of are not noteworthy (at least some of them anyway) but that doesn’t necessarily mean much about her. You have to look at what exactly she did with them and when. In the No Wave “scene” if were provactive in any considerable way you could move in these circles. Now I don’t know any of her work so I’m not going to comment on that but from that video with that guy she seems like a total twat and I’d have no motive to check any of her stuff out.

Quite the opposite - she has an uncanny knack for hanging out with artists that are far superior to her in talent than she has. I don’t necessarily dig some of the music (the work with Foetus comes to mind), but I know it’s a deliberate move on her part.

Essentially, if she isn’t fucking them, she’s singing for/with them.

As far as Joe…I love him, but he is definitely a dysfunctional eccentric. It’s why I say he’s behind Bill as far as perspective, instead of on par with him. He’s got a lot of interesting takes on the world and how we operate as human beings, and skewers a lot of the cliches that continue to prevail in today’s society.

So, of course, when you have an annoying gnat come up to you after you’ve had a long, exhausting show of talking for 1-2 hours, bitching about how he treats women, well…you get this video.

In her defense, Lydia hated Ministry and would trash talk them every chance she got. Doesn’t that give her a free pass here?

I think a lot of that had to do with RevCo using spoken word samples of her in “Physical”.

No. It doesn’t. She hated them when they were awesome (and I’m sure for something really stupid). It’s just further proof that she likes stuff that sucks and doesn’t like stuff that’s cool.

When I first discovered her I kind of thought she was cool with her raspy street tough voice and her outspoken babble about whatever. She was kinda hot in a slutty junkie sorta way (like some vintage Courtney Love). But when a gross is 60 years old and her voice is raspier and her body is 100 pounds heavier and she hasn’t progressed into anything more interesting . . . . it just makes me think of crap like this . . .

She hates Courtney Love, too. Ironic, isn’t it?

She probably offered Al the opportunity to collaborate. And one could only imagine what he probably would’ve said, heh.

Yeah, something like that, for sure. I’m thinking there’s a much more interesting story than what she’s willing to tell.

Lydia’s cool. Anyone cool with Rowland S Howard is good in my books.

Joe Rogan, on the other hand, is as unfunny as he sounds stupid. I don’t quite get why Lydia gave her the time of day.

Plus, Teenage Jesus was awesome. She’s done a lot more worthwhile than him. She may or may not be a pain in the ass, and I honestly couldn’t follow that argument beyond a minute to decide whether or not she got wrecked by him, but I’d pay to see her over him if they were on the same night.

See?
Evil Dildo gets it.

Yeah but Joe Rogan can do color commentary for UFC.

YES.

I have no opinions or clues about anything in this thread, but the above post rules.

Just made my first wikipedia edit. Her discography didn’t list either the Lab Report record “Unhealthy” or the Here record “Brooklyn Bank” she guested on.

I’ve known Lydia for decades she’s very hard-working and she has developed a career for herself of course we all have opinions mine is that what her career is about if you want to take it apart it’s really not much of anything she has a band that’s not such a great band she yells and screams and curses and talks about being abused she basically has done an amazing job with very little talent very annoying add to go up against a guy like Joe Rogan who has done 1500 podcasts two successful television shows a very successful comedian super bright guy do you wanna hold the UFC against him that’s your problem everything he does he does well and is successful with and you can see the two personalities coming together he acted like an adult and told her you don’t act like that to me because of course it’s OK to tell people boundaries you can’t talk to me like that she babbled and babbled and babbled and actually didn’t know what to do with a very brightAnd talented man a guy with a real career

I’ll jump in on this now. ha ha ha
Rogan is an absolutely atrocious comedian. Terrible. I’m not sure how he sells out stadiums. He’s almost as bad as dane cook. (At least he tries to tell jokes, cook just told unfunny stories.) His shit’s just not funny.

but his podcast is brilliant. He’s the best interviewer I’ve heard. He asks the right questions, he asks follow up questions, he asks smart questions. He holds people accountable to what they say and calls them on bullshit. and he’s cool about it. I like that. I’d love for him to moderate a presidential debate. He wouldn’t let anybody get away with these non answers when a pointed question is asked. And nobody’s talking shit to him for it cause he’ll whoop their ass.

The one gripe I have, the only gripe I have is that he tries to play the “both sides” game when it comes to repubs and dems. Both sides don’t do the shit republicans do. and I’d see him grasping (granted I only listened to him for about a year before covid hit and i haven’t listened since) at anything to say “see both sides are fucked up” but he wouldn’t do it often but oh when he would do it… ugh… it just came off disingenuous like he was trying to stay credible for “impartialities” sake.

Lydia lunch: I know she is/was on Jello’s label and the one interview I saw (or read) with her, moons ago, she came off as the personification of self importance and pretentiousness. So much so that I never bothered with anything else with her.
