JKB - Greymachine

Greymachine, the new project which features Justin Broadrick (Jesu, Godflesh), Aaron Turner (Isis), Dave Cochrane (Head Of David, God) and Diarmuid Dalton (Jesu, Godflesh), have set an August 04th release date through Hydra Head for their new outing “Disconnected”. For now, the groups track “Vultures Descend” can be heard here.

For all you JKB fans. Enjoy! If you are looking for this to be like Godflesh, Jesu, Isis or anything along those lines you should skip by. This is much more Final/Techno Animal vs. Merzbow or some-such machination. It’s a lot of noise with a rythem buried in there somewhere. Honestly, I don’t like it but maybe the rest of the album will be different. Who knows?

It’s certainly not GF part 2.

The b-side of already released ‘Vultures Descend’ 12" was a sort of deconstructed mix of a different album cut, We Are All Fucking Liars. This is gonna be loose, noisy and immense with a super dense mix. comparing to other JKB stuff it really reminded me of the first ICE (Under the Skin) & certain Techno Animal tracks from the early discs (Re-Entry/Ghosts)

When you said noisey I thought it might be really good, but this just seems like atonal post metal wank rather than what I hoped…

This whole JKB post metal Isis Pelican etc. crew seems to be getting kind of inbred at this point honestly. They need to hook up with someone outside their scene I feel to get some fire back into the sound.

I’m thinking like take this basic sound but more structured with touches of Arabic melody or saxophone flourishes or something…

If it’s just going to be atonal dreck I’d rather listen to a full on Noise band than post-hardcore dudes cranking it out.

EDIT: With headphones I can hear kick and snare, a …jackhammer panned to my left ear, some delayed shrieking, an occasional high pitched synth and that same distorted bass underneath it all that started the song.

Audio fidelity is everything with this kind of stuff because coherent songwriting has clearly gone out the window. Might sound a lot better in full quality…

I think I’ll skip this and hang around for new Jesu Lp/Ep - and I don’t even high high hopes for those.

I gave Vultures a listen and liked it. I’m REALLY waiting for Jesu though, which i’m more anxious for, but i’ll definitely be getting this also. Also waiting for him to release “Reading All The Wrong Signals” by Final in digital (supposedly next month). But it’d be nice to see something FINAL (pun intended) about the Jesu releases, like a release date or something.

I’m a bit bored with all these digital only releases he spits out these days.

Call me old fashioned…

Not a fan of this stuff…I want the Bill Laswell/Broadrick project coming shortly to drop…that will be a BEAST!

Bring on the new Jesu releases too!!!

Not interested in this. Bring on Jesu.

bored with digital only releases? you mean finally issuing the stuff he was gonna release 10 fucking years ago on Lo Fibre? yeah…

He’s done 2 ‘digital only releases’ of new material, both are slated for regular release (Cd/Lp) as well. That said I’m preferring the digital option- less boxes of stuff to store…like bitching about 8-tracks and cassettes being gone IMO. plastic discs are next to the bin…

greymachine will be on a “proper” format :stuck_out_tongue:
