I hate those blue alien creatures, they look like something out of a Disney movie I mean couldnt they have come up with something better. That said, I’m totally gonna watch this thang I’ll be first in line.
Saw ‘Avatar’ yesterday. A very cool feast for the eyes. You could say its like 2.5 hours of sex for your eyeballs. There are a few drawbacks, like crappy, cliche characters and the according dialogue. But overall it’s a massive achievement. It’s fairly clear Cameron put all his effort into the effects and it certainly pays off. There are some spectacular scenes, real wow! stuff. It was the first time I watched a film in 3D and at first I thought it a little weird and blurry but you get used to it. The story itself is very much inspired by the Gaia theory and deep ecology. It would also appeal very much to Indians or any other group who were invaded by the Big Bad Men. Don’t expect deep insight and ruminations on the topic, just sit back put on the 3D specs and treat yourself. A winner, and one of the best films of the year.
I absolutely loved it.
Yes it was cliched, yes it’s hardly going to win any awards for best actor but hot damn I wish more films could look like that. I went in expecting a two and a half hour orgy of cgi violence and freaky alien shit and I got just that. It will blow you away like nothing else.
It’s the most ‘real’ cgi film ever made.
Can’t wait for Cameron’s ‘Battle Angel’ film in 2011.
Bah. empty sex, empty sex 'tis.
I’d much prefer to go out, pay $15 for some fireworks, and set them off in my garage with the lights off. With my cat in there at the same time.
THAT’S REAL VALUE FOR MONEY, YOU SCHMUCKS! [:)]
Well, to be brutally honest I’d prefer to be oiled up and then sucked completely dry by naked, oiled up Taiwanese babes and then fed opium 'til I’m no longer in Kansas anymore Toto…but for 20 bucks I’ll settle to be completely mindfucked by blue aliens in 3d.
Thank you very much Mr Higgedy!
FUCK! I havent seen it yet!
Everyone I know has seen it, I’ll catch it some time this week though.
It really will blow yer brain out the back of yer skull.
I’m not even into cgi films usually, but this time I was more than obliged to make an exception.
Saw it Saturday night - might see it again in a week or so.
Just watched it w/the wife last week, really enjoyed the show.
I think I might just watch it again in 3-D… [:)]
Planning to watch it Wed.
Honestly, I’m way over movies that are more about special effects than anything else though, so I’m really only going to be social.
i got the sixteen year old meter out the other day which said a big NO. i personally can’t stand the color or the graphics. just me. maybe.i’m all for experiments. 300 , sin city. but the trailers even are just plain boring and ugly.
my kid’s color blind, but still smells a skunk when it’s there.
I have no idea what it is even about.
You and me both buddy!
Late,

I haven’t seen it, but even if it stinks at least it’s pushing the technology to another level where, hopefully somebody will make better use of it.
i’m all for taking advantage of technology as it exists at the time, but if you’re doing anything visual, which others have to look at, and you’re creating a story, do it right. 300 and sin city were pretty good (more so sin city), but i think they both failed as far as creating a picture of an idea that’s satisfying to the audience beyond your livingroom.
A colour blind person could not appreciate ‘Avatar’ as much; the film is an orgy of blues and reds, maybe the best cinematography of a cgi film ever produced.
The technology will of course develop (probably with Cameron’s next film ‘Battle Angel’) but ‘Avatar’ was not short of visual wonder and is easily the most impressive cgi film to date.
