man, that interview with justin broadrick was awesome. he mentions that godflesh will be playing songs only from the first 4 records, and they’ll have a visuals screen and it’ll be like godflesh was “supposed” to be back in the day. man, i am pissy there are no other dates…yet.
So basically, the best stuff is being played? The highlights are those four albums afterall. I could probably live without the Hymns album if I had to.
That was indeed an excellent interview and is a must for any JKB fans. It shows just how nice a fella Justin is. I was glad to hear he is “pulling back the reins” on his jesu ouptut as, hopefully, it will lead to better quality albums. His thoughts on on using a drummer playing live are also interesting. I still think it’s better to use a live drummer but then again I’ve never seen jesu play live. His point about jesu not really being a live band is also worth talking about. Godflesh were more aggressive and his performance was motivated by his rage but jesu being a different beast he doesn’t enjoy it as much as he is too self conscious to rely on something other than his rage. The fact that jesu play fuck all gigs shows this but it was good to hear him talk about it as opposed to just presuming he was lazy.
It was cool to hear there could potentially be more Godflesh gigs. Not using a live drummer it would be more suited to just playing material from the first 4 albums alright (but I do love the last 2 Godflesh albums [:(])
Is anyone here going to the Hellfest show? Jupitreas, I think you mentioned you might be going? Is it sold out or anything?
I dont think its sold out yet, but Im not sure. Either way, if you can’t find a ticket, let me know, I might be able to get one. The reason why I knew about this before it was officially confirmed is because Metal Storm, the webzine I write for, is an official media partner of Hellfest. So we had all that info before anyone else.
This is why I can’t confirm if Ill be going there or not till the last moment. I don’t need a ticket but I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford to travel there. Been having some pretty shit luck finding a day job here lately…
On the other hand, we managed to convince the Hellfest guys to book Fields Of The Nephilim, so thats yet more incentive for me to come… it certainly is tempting but I can’t say anything for sure yet.
Godflesh are on the 18th which looks like the best day, but then again I don’t know half the bands there. Prices aint too bad (€59 incl. camping for one day). But I too don’t know if I have the moolah to travel. Will make a decision later on.
This is what I’m confused with. When he says first 4 albums does that mean it ends at Songs Of Love & Hate or Selfless? Of course the other question being does Slavestate count as a LP or an EP. I pretty much see that as an EP. But this is also a subject thats been debated on avalanchers
When he says the first 4 albums I’d presume it doesn’t necessarily have to be limited to the first 4 LPs. To do so does that rule out Slavestate and the Godflesh album? (considering the reissue version makes it an LP, which might just be the best Godflesh album.)
I usually bunch SOLAH with the last two albums, don’t ask me why.
The self titled is the best album. However on the reissue I couldve done without Streetcleaner 2. All in all I cant really complain or even speculate on what their setlist is gonna be like cause I wont be at hellfest. I also heard talk of a japan tour, but I dont care unless us tour is happening. Then I can fantaize on what the setlist is gonna be like…
I say they open up with Streetcleaner. Now I remember that Justin did say on his twitter that it will be material from the first 4 LP’s, so that guarantees material from Streetcleaner and Pure will be on the setlist. Slavestate has been debatable by some of its just an EP or calling it more of an LP based off the second issue of the album. I still say EP but an essential one in their discography. Not to mention Slavestate would also be a great opener. I would hope they limit it on the Selfless material. I personally was disappointed by that album except for Crush My Soul and a couple other trax. I dont see them playing anything from Songs Of Love & Hate except for Circle Of Shit. So I would assume it ends at Selfless. But if it ended at Pure, meaning material from the self titled got played, then theres have to be a us tour

“Circle of Shit” is the shit! So they better play that shit! Damn I love that shit…
Seriously though probly my fav. Flesh track along with “Wilderness of Mirrors”
Yeah, i’m on the Circle of Shit bandwagon also. If I were them, i’d play Streetcleaner as an encore. Xynobis(sp?) would be awesome. I Wasn’t Born To Follow is a must!
Yeah, COS was one that definatly deserved to be on In All Languages. A fave for me as well, but I fel Love & Hate had some songs that top Shit. Frail and Hunter come to mind
