I’ve been listening to Jean Michel Jarre a lot lately and came across this track. It predates No Devotion by a year.

Any thoughts?

Nice catch. It sounds like they might’ve lifted from here as well but I think this was recorded after No Devotion?
certainly sounds like something the crew would be listening to…not surprised if it’s the sample source

The intro to the first track does sound familiar. I’ve always heard of SPK, but never really check them out. They sound pretty cool! Thanks for the link.
It’s a famous stock sound from the Fairlight CMI sampler. Jan Hammer also used it multiple times on Miami Vice. The first time I heard it on Vice, I freaked out thinking I just heard the beginning of No Devotion.
I actually have this sample in a pack of Fairlight sounds I downloaded a few years ago. Al didn’t do much of anything with the sound. Sounds like Jarre is playing higher than at middle C somewhere to match his song tempo.
Ok, I found the sounds, it’s called “Tibet”, there’s two samples, mapped at C2 and C4 (Devotion might be played at C3?). I’ve uploaded a zip of the wav files here (just right-click/save as):

Awesome! Thanks for researching this.
On the SPK note, I highly recommend the album Leichenschrie as well as the accompanying “Despair” video:

Unfortunately, the DVD adds a bunch of powerpoint slides but you can still make out some of the clandestine 8mm footage band members shot in a morgue…
