Pretty sure I just heard it in one of these Amazon Alexa thingy commercials. Amazon Dot? Or some bullshit. It had a dude with a model motorcycle inside a bottle.

That sounds nothing like the Ministry song.

Agreed. It’s like a knock-off maybe. But not the original.

I thought it sounded something like the Ministry song.
And yes, it’s not the Redline/Whiteline Version.
The first thing that jumped out was the sound of the drums, esp. the snare. Also Jesus is pretty much a straight beat, and the Amazon song has some different bass drum patterns going on. The guitar track is also way off. I wonder if Amazon wanted to use the Ministry song for the commercial and couldn’t get clearance? It would have made sense. Maybe they just hired someone to make a ‘clone’ that attempted to sound similar.

That is likely. This is common practice in the industry. As an editor I’m often asked to find things similar to X and sometimes stuff is commissioned where they are told “make it like X” so they don’t have to pay a huge licensing fee.
Well, now that we got that out of the way…JBMHR is still in an Amazon commercial. I thought that was kind of interesting. A testament to the songs power that even a part that doesn’t have a “ding-a-ling” line is still recognizable, even if it’s a cheap knock off.

Yeah, there are whole CD libraries full of music that companies buy to use for commercials and whatnot, frequently designed to sound almost identical to some familiar tune. We use them at my place of business as well.
There’s a dark ambient one we used to have that was actually a genuinely good album.
