He bitched and moaned to his Exec friends at NBC to get the tonight show back from Conan. So they kicked Conan out of the contract and reinstated Leno. It was a big “scandal” here for a couple of months.
I also hate Ellen DeGeneres. Why does she have her own talk show? She is as interesting as slightly lukewarm toast.
America is weird.
If you don’t like Ellen then that means there is something wrong with you. Ellen is quirky and she’s super nice to her viewers.
Or Aresenio Hall…
wait…

Is he still on?
I remember stumbling upon it a few months back on the first episode. I was dumbfounded. I watched it for about 15-20 minutes questioning reality . . .
Carson for me, no one since has been worth two shits except Andy richter was a hell of a second banana.
I liked Johnny Carson. and I second Richter as the second banana. the guy is so unassuming looking that he just cashes in. I think that dude could side kick in a boy scout uniform and it would look right.
As retarded as I’d always thought that song . . . I must say that’s a pretty fun performance of it. And I think I might be in love with the fiddle player.

agreed. love carson. there’s a good bio on him on PBS one of the american masters series. i’ve also eyed the book that just came out from his personal lawyer.

Yeah apparently very different when the camera was off

yes, Arsey, Billy Ray, and Fred Durst did all look like they were having a lot of fun.
Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop is a great film, well worth checking out, it’s about what he did next after his show ended. He seems a very driven, funny guy. As for Letterman, i get the impression that he never listens to a word his guests say, he’s just looking at his cue cards all the time to see what his next line is.

Johnny Carson and David Letterman are great at their craft, but secretly very miserable people. It’s not hard to see why Letterman is a dick on his show, he’s the type that cannot hide it as well as Johnny.
Leno is a conniving, snake in the grass fuck hiding in what’s an “aw shucks” persona. It’s milquetoast, bland at best and not funny.
Conan is and always has been a great interviewer. He deserved the Tonight Show slot. He didn’t stand a chance with Jay, though, he was really desperate and underhanded.
Don’t get the Fallon and Kimmel love. They are funny guys, but do they deserve more than Late Night? No.
Highly recommend to those, even to the non Americans on this forum, to read Bill Carter’s books on the late-night TV wars, The Late Shift and The War For Late Night. They are fantastic, well-researched and hilariously depraved.
