Jamie Duffy

RIP JAMIE

He was a gentleman and a friend, I met him during the Retropsectacle rehearsals and performed with him that weekend (I, the sax player). He was so kind, and professional! Later we would intermittently catch up with each other on facebook, and what not. It’s a fucking shame. I wish he would have let on that he was suffering so, so that somebody could have intervened. I wish him well now, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

RIP

Thanks for posting here, Jane. This is very sad news. I only had the chance to meet him on the last night after the 242 set, and then saw him with DJ Accucrack opening for FLA last summer. He was a part of a memorable weekend with you and the other great musicians that meant a lot to the Nash family and Wax Trax fans. Just tragic.

Jim, thanks… you inspired me to join the forum today! i had to… to feel some sense of community after this horrible news. (I’ve been a lurker for some time now (; )

I don’t know who Jamie is, but welcome to the forum, PandoraFix. And positive thoughts and prayers for Jamie’s family and friends. Sorry for your loss.

He definitely had a huge impact on so many artists, particularly those local to the Midwest… there is a lot of shared consolation taking place on facebook amongst everyone that has ever worked with or been friends with Jamie. Very, very sad.

Very sad. The poor guy

RIP, Jamie

Rocking during Stainless Steel Providers:

Posted in the othe thread, but really awful. In addition to Retrospectacle, got to see him play when Acumen/Acucrack inexplicably came to Nashville. Great set, but only 5 of us in the “crowd”. I wrote them on MySpace to thank them and apologize for the terrible turnout. I think it was Jamie who messaged me right back and was very cool. Sad there won’t ever be another new Acumen record. I’ll have to throw on ILC’s Ditch The Attitude this evening in his honor.

This, and a reiteration of my comment on the previous thread.

Three threads, dunno where to put it but:

man, that is a great article.

so guys forgive my ignorance. but, so he was a live sound guy in the chicago scene and studio second engineer at trax? did he work on the stuff i consider “the good stuff”? (86-91)

I don’t know about the earlier stuff, slack, but he certainly worked on Filth Pig.

That was a nice article, thanks for sharing . Chris pulled a bunch of those hats out of no where be fore the show… Haha.

slack: locally to Chicago, Jamie was the in-house sound guy for a number of venues and shows, but musically he was known as the main member of Acumen Nation (later simply Acumen) and one half of DJ? Acucrack …

A lot of artists on WaxTrax! and Invisible have worked with him in some capacity.

He was the in house sound and lighting guy for the cubby bear

thanks for the info everyone.

so sorry for the loss.

After reading the post by Jim Marcus it hits home. It’s done in such a way where Jamies death almost feels like I’m mourning after my younger self. As a result my thoughts go out to you all who knew him personally.

Facebook’d.

Heavy times.

This is very surprising and very sad. I had just seen him a few weeks ago at Neo and we had a drink together and talked. He was one of those friendly people with an extremely caring and good heart. I hope his family and close friends are okay during this hard time. Very shocking indeed.

A memorial fund has been set up, for those wishing to donate:
