Anyone pick this up? I finally found it last Friday at Othermusic in NY (just when I was giving up hope, I checked the Swans section, and ba-bam!), and it’s pretty good - pretty different from Jesu, but still decent. What does everyone else think?
It’s interesting to say the least about it. It’s very jesu-ish, just without justin on the vocals. The vocals seem to throw me off some, but i’ll be giving this a few more listens.

I really enjoyed the Jarboe & Neurosis release, however, this isn’t quite as good. Even her turn on the lifeline EP is superior in general to the j2 release. I picked it up and a handful of the tracks are solid, but this just feels, I dunno, not as epic as you’d think. I believe the expectation of this release over all, given their catalogs was likely far to high.
from me, J2 rates a 3/5 - I own it because I’m a completist. =/

wow, didn’t even know about this release… not listening to Jesu as much these days. haven’t been in the mood for it I guess. only heard Jarboe on one track, the Jesu track. I may get this once I have money.

I’m curious about this release. I dig some of Jarboe’s work, loved that track “Red” she did with Foetus. Some of her solo stuff is interesting, “Anhedoniac” was an especially good album.
you can see the nipple on her left breast in her wikipedia picture. she’s cute but her nipples suck. I don’t really care for, what i call, “cap nipples” it looks like the whole point of her breast is nipple. it reminds me of the cap toe shoe.

I don’t like Jarboe more often than I do but this thread did get me to download the cover she did of “Black Eyed Dog” which is fantastic. One of my favorite Swans songs.

I’ve never heard of a video. You might be thinking of those nude photos Richard Kern took of her? Sleazemeister Kern is known for his porno type videos of various rockers like Lydia Lunch/Foetus etc but I don’t think he made a film with Jarboe. With that said his films are pretty awesome and his video for Death Valley 69 is a classic.

Jarboe, to me seems pretty hit or miss. I quite honestly love the lifeline ep, and jarboe’s vocals on that weren’t half bad at all. On this one, it’s meh. Maybe it takes some getting used to, but it just seems “out there”, maybe? …Dunno. Apparently she was also on APC’s Thirteenth Step also. Think it was “lullaby”; she’s definitely listed in the credits at least.
I’m curious to hear more of her stuff so compare to J2. But I dunno…
