John R. Davis Jr.
DAVIS, John R. Jr., 57, of Port Richey, Fla., died February 19, 2009. He is survived by his mother, Terry Davis; sister, Donna Loies; and two nephews.
Just got off the phone with Stevo. Sad to hear that JD passed away a couple of weeks ago. Stevo and JD were related…second cousins I think. Anyway, he didn’t have the greatest chops but he always worked very hard to overcome his lack of experience. He was a great guy to be on the road with too.
Wow. How sad. I had hoped to have the pleasure of interviewing him some day.

This is terrible news, my condolences go out to his family and friends. 57 is way too young to go.
condolances to those of you who knew the guy… not to pry but what was the cause of death?

JD had been in poor health the last 15 years or so, mostly stemming from a heart condition. I understand that was one of the reasons he moved to Florida, to be with friends and family down there…and for the weather.
He’d been in the hospital for a couple of weeks and finally died from complications with pneumonia.
Sad. Sorry to hear this.
What specifically did he do in the earliest incarnation of Ministry?

JD was kind of the rhythm keyboardist. He played most of the string sounds. If you look on the SOM video…

…JD is featured initially around the 41 second mark.
He didn’t do a lot of writing, or any singing, but he had a lot to do with holding songs together when they were being fleshed out. Sometimes we’d show up for rehearsal and wouldn’t remember all the parts of a new song we’d been practicing the night before, but JD always remembered. He practiced more at home than the rest of us because quite frankly he was the least experienced musician and he needed that edge to keep up.
He really worked hard at it. It was a shame when he got axed just before the main WS sessions.
Thanks Wempathy for sharing this info on John with the forum despite the unfortunate reason for it. Without guys like you who were in the band from the beginning, Chris, Special Ed or fans from that time period a lot of this stuff would be swept under the carpet by Al.
