Itunes backcatalog releases

So… I am not a fan of Itunes at all, but my wife has it installed and I read about TISM putting their back catalog up on Itunes so I thought i would have a look.

Now every TISM album is out of print bar their last dvd/cd release. But they have gone Itunes crazy, every album, every single (including vinyl only singles which have never been transferred to cd releases before afaik) are there. There’s a box set up. Also a lot of their re-releases have a stack of bonus tracks like unreleased (and uncirculated) demos and other goodies. Plus digital booklets whatever they are… scans of the packaging maybe?

Anyway… I was impressed… might have to nab a couple of the singles considering TISM fans are rabid and pay ridiculous amounts for the phyical copies of things.
The only gripe I have is it’s MP3 with no option for lossless, however they are itunes plus, or some crap… which appear to be 256kbps quality, so not terrible. I don’t think TISM are going to win over any audiophiles anyway

Have any other bands gone to this level when releasing stuff on Itunes or online? Obscure singles etc… being re-released?

Portion Control released just about every one of their pre-1990 releases on iTunes but without much in the way of bonus. Cabaret Voltaire has been putting up a lot of singles and rare live material.

Martin Atkins put about 150 different live PIgface shows and demo session up.

Somebody needs to tell Martin that sometimes less is more.

What bands would people like to see go crazy with their back-catalog.

I mean Ministry is an obvious one with Al’s claims of shelves upon shelves of outtakes etc. Plus an official re-release of all the different slight variations of I Wanted To Tell her can’t go wrong [:)] (Stuck stuck stuck!)

I am sure groups like Tool or Nine Inch Nails must have some fancy stuff that has never seen the light of day. A copy of the Skinny Puppy Tool remix that doesn’t sound like crap would be nice. Suppose TR is already kinda releasing stuff like that on his remix site though.

I don’t know… Usually bands don’t release songs for a reason… not every swing is a home run… ya know?

And just because a song isn’t released doesn’t mean it isn’t.
