Hell yes. It’s gonna be awful, whatever they’re doing (maybe a Netflix movie?), but I will give it a shot. I can always watch the first four Police Academy flicks, because Guttenberg is in them (in reality, the first one is the only good one, but I will sit through fucking Citizens on Patrol if it’s on TV).
I immediately went to Steve’s wiki page to see if there was mention of part 8, and found this:
In an interview published August 1, 2010, Guttenberg revealed that David Diamond and David Weissman were writing a script for Police Academy 8. Eight days later, actor Bobcat Goldthwait released a statement urging Hollywood to reboot the Police Academy series with a new group of actors instead of the original cast members. Goldthwait confirmed that Steve Guttenberg would return and that movie bosses were trying to get Kim Cattrall and Sharon Stone to return for an eighth sequel though Goldthwait said he had no desire to return to the series.
The poor bastard was making Christmas movies for the Hallmark Channel. It may be fun to revisit, but I’m sure it will be horrible by today’s screenwriting standards. Police Academy wasn’t funny because of the sight gags, it was the casual dialogue and witty humor that carried those films.

what the hell is up with that picture. it looks like a colorized black and white from the 40s.
I hate to say it, but I don’t think the Police Academy movies would fly in 2016. A lot of the humor is based on casual sexism, which audiences lapped up in the early 80s but won’t find so funny now. Plus, the dude who played the Commissioner just died.

Hahaha I doubt they would have cast the Commissioner actor at 98 years old…but yeah,I agree that Police Academy definitely won’t fly in 2016…then again,Michael Winslow is always fun…my favorite stuff from him was in the Cheech and Chong movies…
I had this one pegged for a reboot long ago, but also figured it would have gone completely new cast. I’ll have to read the latest to see if I have ANY interest.
I do also agree that a lot of the charm of the first films was the politically incorrect humor.
If there’s no scene at the Blue Oyster bar they can all go to Hell.

COMPLETELY forgot about this re-occurring joke. Laughing my ass off right now and humming the song they were always playing.
Harris: “Proctor, I don’t SEE a salad bar.”
Proctor (points to Blue Oyster sign): “Look sir, maybe they serve seafood!”

“What happened?”
“Dancing, sir…mostly dancing”
Bahmp Bannha Bah Naahnahhh!!!
Plus, the dude who played the Commissioner just died.
How inappropriate would it be to still cast him and pull off a weekend at Bernie’s type gag throughout the whole movie? [laugh]
