What if someone were to take a straw, tube, tunnel or whatever (a large one that is) and stick one end out in space and the other in down here on the Earth would the vacuum of space suck everybody/everything out into space like a broken airplane window sucks everything out of it if broken at a high enough altitude?

I know so little about physics but I doubt that would happen. The case with the airplane at altitude may not be comparable because of different properties involved; the airplane is a pressurised solid container, the Earth’s atmosphere is not held in the same way. But I’m not in the know, the one who’s name implies a malevolent phallus at work may put your mind at rest.
It wouldn’t overcome gravity. Nothing would happen.
This.
It’s same as when you place a straw in a glass of water. The straw fills to the level of the water but doesn’t go spouting off into the room. Gravity holds everything down. There’s really nothing holding the atmosphere down except gravity anyway. A straw would make no difference.
But if you want to read about something really cool and kinda similar…google “space elevator” sometime and try and wrap your head around that one.
Gravity huh?
That’s what my wife said. I gotta just start believing her all the time. Thanks for the replies fellas.
I’m familar with the space elevator I know they think they can get to the moon and mars with it dont really know the specifics of it though. I guess I will google it. Thanks
