I gotta admit I’m pretty excited for the new Iron Man movie. The reviews are coming in pretty positive and I’m a huge childhood fan of the character (my favorite Marvel hero growing up). I can’t go tonight but I hope to hit it tomorrow.
Anyone else excited? Anyone seen it? I know we’re a board full of closeted comic geeks, so speak up!
Haven’t seen the repulsor gloves, they must be like Hulk Hands. I bought a buddy a pair of Hulk Hands a few years back, they were awesome.
I also wanted to have an Iron Man anti-Valentine’s Day card, showing him shooting at the viewer with the tag line being “You Repulse Me” or “You’re Repulsing”.
i will probably see iron man today or tommorow. When i had my sega dreamcast i played marvel vs capcom 2 and i always picked iron man cos he’s cheap and can kill anyone with his big ass gun i used to call him Big Man With A Gun. get it [;)]
I’m actually very interested to see this one. I try not to buy into critical reviews (though I do frequent Rotten Tomatoes), but they’re overwhelmingly positive for this film. I’m not the biggest comic book movie fan, but I could use a ‘redemption’ movie after the awful SpiderMan 3. The first two Superman flicks and Batman Begins are my favorites in that genre.
I think it’ll be ok, Downey looks like he plays it well.
I’m not a HUGE comics geek (though at one point, I DID own the entire Dark Phoenix saga of X-Men…) and I know next to nothing about Iron Man, but I saw the previews, saw Downey Jr. as said hero, thought “WHAT THE HELL?!?” and did some research. Upon discovering the greatest thing in the world (that apparently, Iron Man IS some form of an alcoholic), Downey Jr. is PERFECT for the role.
Well I am a comic geek and I thought it as pretty good. Not the best, but I did really enjoy Robert Downey Jr. Thought they did a pretty good job of adapting pieces from the comic over the years without too many stupid changes that don’t make sense. I was struck by how much Tony Stark as a character seemed like he could have been created now, yet they were really just adapting the old stories from the 60s (for the most part).
And as for the Michael Moore thing, keep in mind that that was a major story arc from a long time ago in the comic book and really makes sense with the character’s development. Iron Man was created during the Vietnam era, and even then wasn’t too preachy. I really thought the middle east pieces weren’t anti-war. They came off more anti-Regan-era arms dealing, if anything.
I liked it quite a bit. I was worried about it being too cgi heavy and not looking real enough, but they pulled it off really well. I thought RDJ,jr was perfectly cast for the part.
As superhero movies go, this one’s top-notch. The effects were superb - not once did I think that it looked fake.
Anyone else stick around for the post-credits geek moment?
I did, and while the casting of Nick Fury was slightly surprising, I wonder if it is really a foreshadow of films to come. The movie itself was more enjoyable than I thought it would be despite the rather heavy handed subject matter. Robert Downey Jr’s performance was also quite good, and the effects were very believable, especially after the debacle that was Spider-Man 3.
