Iran

What do you guys think about the right of a country to further nuclear ambitions?

Some feel the U.S. can’t tell other states what to do as regards their own nuclear development.

Personally I don’t want Iran (or Pakistan) with nuclear arms.

It’s tricky

Well, that’s what happens when we ignore the Non-Nuclear Proliferation Treaty. Iran signed it…we ignored it.

You can hardly blame Iran for wanting nuclear weapons now. If Saddam had them, we would never have invaded Iraq. And possessing nuclear power for energy needs is every countries inalienable right.

The day is coming when the Western world will have squandered any position it once had because of it’s hubris and greed.

Poof.

Pakistan has nuclear weapons but people don’t really get why. For years, India would bully Pakistan threatening them with nukes or doing the “look what we have and you don’t”. It would make Pakistan obviously back down. Then the nukes came and this neutralized areas. In this situation, there was little choice Pakistan had. Had this not happened, who knows how bloody things would be.

You ask about Iran having nukes - I want to ask what you think of a very right wing government who have a large amount of nukes, have slaughtered over 2000 people in about two weeks just last month, have bombed UN schools and hospitals knowingly, have tried to take land from more than one surrounding nation and have no regard for human life if it’s not one of their own. Wouldn’t this scare you more? It does me.

I am talking of Israel. We don’t even know how many nukes they have and yet they are in the middle of a very tense situation (and, some may argue, the cause of it).

This leads to the question: who decides who should have nukes and who shouldn’t? America is the only nation that has devastated areas with huge bombs so why should they be allowed to dictate who should have weapons and who doesn’t?

But Iran must be loving it right now. America has their hands tied with Iraq and Afghanistan (keep in mind the US supported Iraq in their war against Iran) which they aren’t getting out of any time soon, the economy of the US has crumbled (Iran, due to sanctions, have learned to be quite self sufficient), and Iran has a good amount of oil, and the militant groups they are accused of training have been getting stronger and stronger. They must be asking themselves “What’s the catch?”.

Israel.

Of course. Daft of me to omit that.

I don’t know Israel’s policy on Iran but its common knowledge what the Iranian gov. thinks of Israel.

1948 was just another fuck up in the perpetual legacy of bullshit pseudo righteousness. Zionism is particularly nauseating.

I’ve always thought the powers that be in the US were obnoxious in their “we can have it, but you cant” view regarding nuclear warheads but still I’d rather they have the upper hand in this context and by that I mean in a dissuasive “dont try it” manner, not blowing the shit of some country.

I figure if we’re allowed to do it, so should they. Think bush made it clear that he was up for some fightin’, and i’m sure Obama won’t fuck around if they tried to turn that against us. But in the end, and I guess in the case, we consider it more of a threat, rather than possible scientific growth. North Korea’s been testing, and what’s to become of that? It’s a huge world out there, and if you want to make bombs, then I say go ahead. I don’t really support it, but hey, it’s your country…who the hell am I?
