Thanks to Akbar for directing to this.

I like the new song though, as usual, I’m not 100% on Gira’s voice.

His voice is mainly why I could not really get into Angels of Light. But his voice does work on the best of Swans.

I like the Swans but prefer their more abrasive material.

The song descriptions make it sound more like an Angels Of Light album.

nothing to do with the swans, but i just realised the guys that run that site DJ in my local pub. small world.

Think I stole that link from someone over on the Melvins forum.

Interesting hearing an artist review their own album.

This and the new Killing Joke are definitely two albums to look forward to this year.

Still need to buy that High Confessions albums too.

This year has been an incredible year for music and it’s going to get even better with the above albums!

Apparently its leaked - and apparently it’s awesome.

My impatience got the better of me. I’ve listened to it through once and I am disappointed. It is certainly more Angels of Light than Swans. With exception of the opener and Eden Prison (and maybe two more tracks) this is not where Swans left off in the 90s. There is a deficit of the epic quality that characterised the best of Swans when they finished up back then. It may be different in a live setting (as Gira alluded to) but bar the opening track, No Words/No Thoughts, which is the longest cut on the album, this is fairly straight forward. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad album but it’s an immediate let down. There’s a pressure (high and driving bass notes) behind most songs so it’s certainly not easy listening. I’m hoping this will make it grow on me but with other Swans albums you can pick up very quickly if it’s going to be brilliant or not. The third song seems like a throwaway to me. Considering this it’s more like an EP than a proper Swans album.

Don’t expect to be mesmerised.

  • The song ‘You Fucking People Make Me Sick’ is fairly cool, one of the more interesting tracks. It seems many of the songs are just waiting to be played live. Gira admitted to being a pussy and backing out of making them of epic length for the album. Shame. Actually, is anyone going to catch them on this tour? Looking to catch them in D.C. (if tix are still available).

If you approach the album with modest expectation I think it will be much more rewarding. Gira is a bit misleading saying it’s picking up where Swans left off. Disregard that opinion and it may be neat album to get.

I was under a certain impression that it would sound like Angels of Light, but at least have the attitude of Swans. Got a very good review from one site. Now I really want this. I’m not expecting another Love of Life or Annihilator.

I got tickets for the NYC date as soon as they were available.

Mick, there will be a double cd version at some point and I have a feeling you may dig the bonus disc a bit more.

I enjoyed it a lot, but I was a guy who thought the last AoL album had a few tracks that just cried for a more heavy hand. and I wish No Words/No Thoughts was about 3 minutes longer at the start…

my expectations came from the ‘I am Not insane’ versions of the songs - I never expect any artist to really repeat themselves (Slayer & AC/DC prove there’s no rule tho.)

double disc version? yes please.

I have a feeling that this isn’t going to be what I’d hoped it was going to be.

That’s good news.

I’m more interested in what they do with songs like The Sound, Helpless Child or the live version of Blood Promise.
