Yep it started out as the instrumental Primental on the Cold Life single.

I remember reading Al saying that ‘Chic’ was the greatest band ever (or something to that effect). So, i can see him writing this one for sure. That ego! Poor Al!

IWTTH is a new recording of Primental from the ground up I believe with lyrics, etc added.

The personnel changes a bit. Brad Hallen plays bass instead of Marty. Again I played most of the keyboard parts that aren’t the horn sounding bits. I do recall that it was me that played the string parts with the bends in it (John Davis played that part on Primental). I had just flown in from home and went immediately to the studio and hadn’t expected to do much but say “hi” to everyone and got thrown into playing that part. I don’t think I ever played that particular part before and never played it live, that’s why I recall it. It was the one and only time I played it I guess.

Love some of the comments here about how it seems unlikely for Al to have written a dance-funk piece like this. The presumption that Al somehow dictated all the music back then makes me chuckle.

Apparently somebody just added some bongos on top of Primental, pressed a 12" and sold it to play in Italian discos. Those Italians are a very opportunistic bunch.

Well the source of the “Al Jaurgensen” misspelling is apparently the Situation Two re-issue of Cold Life from 1982 (the one with all the naked guys on it!). The vinyl label credits Al as this.
