Another video surfaced from the Boston 84 show.

Interesting enough, I Wanted To Tell Her was performed during this show.

awesome. wish there would be a complete video recording of that show.

Sweet!

Killer. Is it the same source?

Al on the black strat with the Front 242 sticker. Love it.

wempathy, is that you getting down back there and doing the percussion on the keys?

Yep, it’s the same source as the Work For Love Boston 84 video.

Yvonne Gage.

Yvonne also did guest vocals on “Eureka Pile”.

Not I. I think that’s John Sirotka (sp?) although I never met him.

Back to the Strat…there were twin black Strats purchased by the band when signed to Arista. I was given one of them in lieu of $$. I, in turn, traded it (never liked Strats, I’m a Tele kinda guy) for a few pieces of recording gear to a friend. When my friend got married years later, circa '98-99, he held the wedding reception at his art gallery and asked a few of his friends to play. So I strode up to the stage and was handed the Black Strat, which I hadn’t seen in over 10 years. So we played a bunch of cover songs and the rest of the night is kind of a blur. The very next morning, while my friend and his new bride were out for breakfast, someone broke into the gallery and made off with the guitar and a few other things.

Man, that sucks. Great story. Well, at least you got to see her and play her again one last time.

A friend I grew up with was pretty successful guitar player. He played this one early 90s strats when they had the lace sensor pickups. He had this blue sunburst one. He played the holy hell out of that thing. fast forward 20 years, we’re in a bar getting shitty and I’m introduced to this dude that my buddy knows whom he hasn’t seen in years. At some point it comes up that he “still has the strat”. And my buddy was like, “nice”. Buddy goes to bathroom, i get the guys number and don’t tell my buddy. Call the dude the next day, buy the guitar back, and give it BACK to my buddy. Ha. Man that was fun.

In case anyone was wondering, I think we all did shots when my buddy came back from the b-room at the bar after I got the number.

Al is also wearing a 242 Medusa’s shirt underneath that ‘dress’, and the shirt has been reprinted and is for sale at the Wax Trax Chicago online store (though I think the design is scaled down from the original version).

Nice to see more of this show and “Happy Al”. Great recording! I gather it was Beta instead of VHS. Incredible quality considering that it’s more than 30 years ago.

At the rate Karl is posting these clips, we should have the entire show online in about 20 years!

Other observations…

  1. Looks like Patty was playing a vintage Roland Jupiter 8 synth! Awesome!!
  2. The set list is taped to Patty’s keyboard
  3. Patty looks like she’s hating life up there on stage…
  4. Maybe we will eventually see/hear a high-quality recording of “Do You Even Like It?”

That’s what I’m hoping for too! I contacted Karij about the rest of the videos, he’s planning on uploading them after the Wax Trax documentary comes out.

That is definitely music to my ears…and eyes.

The Jupiter 8 was around for the WS sessions in Boston and the '83 tour. I’m sure it’s the same one.
