The other day I went and visited the Spahn Ranch, where the Manson Family used to live, and made this YouTube video out of it…Enjoy!
You living out here now?
I gave a speech on Charles Manson in college. I had to d a lot of research on him. I’m not sure what you think about him was a so profound or what makes him a philosopher. He honestly seems like a victim of the system. His Birth Certificate has him named “No Name Maddox.” His mom tried to sell him to a bar to pay her tab. He spent more than half his childhood in youth jails. I do agree it’s suspicious they put him in jail for never killing anyone… What made him so dangerous if he was only controlling drugged out hippies? Maybe he was part of MK ultra. I never heard that angle.
Yes! I live in the Valley with my girl! We love it out here! We have a show coming up…8/8 at the C.I.A in North Hollywood.
I think his words, speeches and song lyrics are profound and make him a philosopher. I agree with the “Victim of the system” angle. I think it was all a witch hunt. We’re gonna pin it all on this guy because it’s good for ratings/press, it fits a narrative that the hippy movement has a dark side (we can therefore justify Vietnam and other imperialistic hyper capitalist idiocy) and because he was mentally ill and unrepentant he was the perfect media scapegoat. How else can someone rot in jail for life without ever killing anyone?? It’s utterly ridiculous. Perfect Americana. I don’t know much about MK Ultra. I know Manson was involved in several cults including what became Scientology and the Process Church early on…perhaps he participated in the MK Ultra experiments?? I don’t think he’s a martyr or something, but I do think he is a good indication of just how fucked this system is.
If that 8/8 shows happens, I’ll try to make it out.
How many people did Hitler personally kill?
Might seem like a fair comparison, but seeing that Hitler was the leader of a country and therefore had the “authority” to order the extermination of millions. I’d say say he personally killed all of them.
What authority did Manson have other than charisma?
I don’t know enough about the guy to really comment. But with a face like that would you let that man watch your children? Probably not, and if you’re answer is yes, you’re lying.
A long time ago I visited the Barker Ranch which was where they were hiding out when he was finally caught. I saw the sink cupboard he was hiding in when he was finally captured. I also played around on Tex Watson’s pick up truck which was then in Ballarat, CA. I don’t know if it still is. I THINK Ministry used the same truck for some photo shoots just before Houses of the Mole came out. I’ve never seen it discussed anywhere, but it looks exactly as I remembered. I used to be kind of a Manson junkie too. I only recently heard the MK Ultra stuff (thanks Joe Rogan, haha) and I do find it quite interesting and it might even be worth consideration.
I never had any deep conspiracy theories before that. I just thought he was a goofy psycho with a strong charisma and influence over even sadder dropout hippies.
I might revisit the topic. It’s a fun rabbit hole whether or not it goes anywhere. His parole hearings were always top shelf entertainment.
I’ll have to check out that Barker Ranch. I don’t know much about that part of the story. I didn’t think it was much time at all before they were caught, I guess I assumed he was still at Spahn when he was apprehended. I’m looking into a lot of this stuff more lately…my own video inspired me! haha. I also joined some crazy Charlie Manson Facebook groups in my attempt to promote my video and found a lot of weirdos who view him as like a messiah and have somehow convinced themselves he was a good guy? Creepy communities for sure. They were giving me meditation advice…that I should just repeat “Love always, Love always, Love always” … at first I’m like ok that sounds reasonable then I’m like wait that’s some Charlie Manson shit! Help! They’re starting to make sense to me and I think that’s how the Family thing starts…the whole race war/murder spiel comes in later
There’s a Manson tour you can take, if you hadn’t heard. They’ll take you to a lot of the places where stuff went down. Been meaning to take it for years, just never seem to find the time.
That sounds pretty rad. Maybe in the future we can rally a posse to do the Charlie Manson murder tour.
The Barker Ranch was burned by arsonists 10 years ago, so you can’t check out the cabinet Manson tried to hide in or any of that stuff.
You can still wander around the desert searching for a bottomless pit to hide out the upcoming race war in, though. Might be a good time to do that, actually.
^ Oh, damn! I hadn’t heard that. Any idea if it was some sorta ideological statement/ protest or just random pyro shit? I’m sad to hear it. Back when I went (about 25 years back) one of the things that was so cool about it (and the same applies to many such locations of intrigue) is that it wasn’t controlled or regulated or anything. You could just go inside, walk around, touch stuf, etc. There was a little coffee table even, and an old paperback of Bugliosi’s “Helter Skelter” on it so guests could relax and read a bit of they liked. It was a more trustful and open time, I guess, haha. And for a place with zero monitoring (I suspect a few volunteers would do some minor cleaning from time to time, but mostly everyone just took care of shit collectively on an honor system) it was incredibly well-kept and free of trash or vandalism.
Sad to hear it burned, but thanks for the update.
You’d get more info from Googling, but I think the suspicion was it was someone’s “fuck you” to the Manson myth.
Nothing says “love always” like race wars and murder
