I met Paul Barker last night at the USSA Show

I’d just like to reiterate what a few have said about this gentleman and scholar. Damn what a nice fellow! He came out to watch “idiot stare” at the knitting factory where there was Maybe 150 people in attendance all night. and he was standing 3 feet from where mrs. smrf and I were sitting. I tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around with a smile and said, “Hi what’s your name?” He was very approachable and very polite. I asked him if he would autograph some Cd’s for us. he said “How many is a few?” I said 4. and I got a bit star struck cause I couldn’t remember the lead into gold name. but he was really nice and signed 2 versions of the fall(the slim line from germany and normal Compact CD [NOT MAXI]), Age of reason and the USSA Cd (actually the whole band signed the USSA CD).
I told him it was really nice to meet him and that his presence is sorely missed in ministry now. That ministry just isn’t the same, it’s just metal now. He shook his head in agreement and seemed really sad about it. (I like metal but I want my ministry to be ministry and not slayer meets megadeth I mean I’ll listen to it cause it’s decent metal But for me I think Ministry was done 1/2 way through Animositisomina.)
We didn’t talk to him for very long I didn’t want to bother the guy even though it didn’t seem like we were so he shook our hands and we let him be. the drummer from USSA was a great guy too very humble I’m sure it’s much better for paul working with guys that seem so much more agreeable. BTW Drummer said they had a whole bunch of new material and were planning a 2nd album soon. I think he said they were going to record on Sunday.
SO that’s my paul story.

heh, gentleman and scholar.

yeah, he’s always been a nice guy. graet shows, great band memebrs, good times. glad you had a good one.

Pfft. Grumpy will blindly deify anything. God only knows if Paul will ever write anything better than this music. I remain hopeful. A lot of years has to be put on a band and a lot of material - good material has to be expended behind a guitar or drum kit before you can ever hope they’ll be remembered five minutes after they’re down the hole.

Just don’t see it with this act.

Pity.

Who said anything about the band?? I just said they were really nice…Deify anything? How come I haven’t done that to you…Oh you know why.
Later Bitch,

You lucky bastard.

You lucky bastard.

You can too as long as you make it to a USSA show he’s really approachable and very humble to his fans. (damn didn’t that sound like a TV commercial?) He Mingled in the crowd and is quite noticeable since he stands a foot taller than everyone else. I’m 6’2 and I had to reach up to tap his shoulder. I’d say 6’8 maybe 6’7…

Maybe a new Cd means another tour. The three shows we saw them on this tour were really good. i like them much better live then their recorded stuff. Maybe a live cd is in order!

THree shows? Damn that’s excellent. I thought they sounded pretty much the same as they do on the CD just different acoustics.

Not trying to start a Flame war here but what does Angie think of you consorting with the likes of paul? Or is that the reason you and Catgoat aren’t mods anymore? Or does she even make her disapproval vocal?

Yeah we were lucky enough to get two shows in Milwaukee and one in Chicago. The first show in Milwaukee they were headlining, and evert time all the guys were really nice!

Im not sure how she feels about it. We have posted pics of us hanging out with Paul in the past - when he did his two dj stints in Chicago. She never said anything to us about any of that.

We stepped down as mods at that time because the wedding took all of our time. No drama.

Barker’s lead into to gold is Fantastic. You can’t just put it on and listen to it at first though. It has to be background music before you can listen to it as foreground music. I think it certainly generates a very dark mood if not “depressing.” I listened to it for nearly all of the reading of the connelly book. I just put the whole disc on repeat. it made for a fantastic mood while reading that material. I think Barker is expert at making not just music but very specific pictures with his music. The dude is a painter with musical notes. Sometimes it takes the right light to appreciate a really good peace of art or the right circumstances to really bring out the piece. Anyway I’m by no means a Paul groupy but I’m definately rethinking his old solo project.

Lead into Gold.
Yes.
“Unreason” is the theme of our existence.

i agree with him painting" shit with his music, or music he has had a heavy influence with. vex & siolence, for example. i just can’t get enough of this track, after all these years. the music itself is so overpowering and smothering. then his vox are almost gritted teeth, disgusted like. awesome. and the tone of the song, (“in the end, here is nothing” for example) rings true for how i feel at times. how someone reacts to finding out all they’ve been taught is worthless, and when you die nothing happens.

i’m so goth!

That’s great! Its seems he’s fantastic at PR just being himself. If that truly is how he acts, could be he has refined his mask out in public. How’d you like USSA? was his wife and kid with him?(I think they are his wife and daughter) Two blondes one young about 15 with SUPER FRIZZY/CURLY hair and a lot of it. The other, a way older looking lady with a dutch boy cut. The only reason I ask is because I was wondering if they are traveling with him.

I met Paul tonight. He signed my shirt for me. I can’t believe how nice he is. He is Mr. Smiley face. I told him I am a huge old Ministry fan and he seemed to appreciate that and told me thanks for showing up. I left him alone after that because I didn’t want to be one of those clingy dorks. I stood right in front of him when he played on stage. I was so close that I had to keep leaning back so that he wouldn’t whack me in the head with the neck of his bass. What a great time!

I too met Paul on the USSA tour when he rolled through Seattle. I was a little drunky so I didn’t try to make to much conversation, just enough to let him know I admired his music and was a longtime fan. He was a very warm friendly fellow.

I thought it was kind of funny how nerdy sounding his voice was, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it just seemed to reinforce the lanky computer geek with glasses image.

I look forward to the next USSA release.

If DJ only knew.
A year later he’d be neck deep lickin’ that old lady’s ass once he found out Gerda was Paul’s wife and not his grandma.

Quoting this for future reference when DJ continues his inability to actually leave the group he “quit forever” almost 3 years ago.

Not that it matters. He’ll change his story regardless, and find some other bullshit reason to continue slumming around here.

Distant or not, at least he admits I’ll always be in his memories. Must be wonderful to wake up every morning thinking of Gunnar.

DJpon3 is quitting forever. he’ll rebrand himself and come back to continue to spread his hate and bullshit. And he’ll justify it by pointing out its not DJpon3 here its some other name.

Yeah, like my name.
