Well, yeah! Trent’s in that weird mode where he’s essentially a PROMOTER of music that his wife does. He’s the talent and she’s…not higher talent. So, it’s just okay. He joins a long line of people who have done this. The only difference being, what’s the motivation? Is she a nag, or is he truly believing the bullshit? The latter is my opinion.

Think about it, these things come in successions. Johnny and June Cash. Yo La Tengo. John and Yoko, TO AN EXTENT (Yoko is terrible and he knew it).

Oh well.

Listened to it several times now. I am very pleasantly surprised. The EPs were not memorable, but across the span of an entire album, the music stands on its own. It definitely has that Trent-vibe, and I miss the angry bits, but overall, “Welcome Oblivion” is an outstanding piece of work.

I think is pretty cool. The booklet is great! This is definitely more a nice late night chill listen than a Rock record or whatever.

I’m glad Trent is taking the time to do this project because I think it’s allowing him to explore without releasing another album under the “NIN” brand name.

I know he wants to evolve and explore but I think NIN being at heart still an energetic and heavy rock band is really important for the name to live up to that legacy he created.

yeah i got bored after a few tracks. meh.

I agree with you, It’s not a NIN album and it works quite well as a late night thing. Musically it’s not outstanding and I agree if you’re not in the mood it can be boring, but the sound design is really cool.

It’s really not that hard to create a link.

Also, what’s up with web players that don’t have a volume control? I’ve got the computer’s sound turned down to almost nothing and it’s still loud as fuck.

Also, they already released four of these tracks last year on the An Omen EP. Fuck that shit. I don’t want to pay for the same songs twice. Rip off.

John and Yoko, TO AN EXTENT (Yoko is terrible and he knew it).

The John & Yoko album Plastic Ono Band was the best thing Lennon ever released by a friggin country mile so I’d have to disagree with that assumption.

As for the Trent thing…it’s his Wife so she’s obviously passionate about her “art” and making it come about…Trent can make that happen obviously and it being his Wife he will. I doubt very much she nagged him…in reality it was probably the other way around and he pushed her into completing it.

I could be wrong though…

But yeah Plastic Ono Band friggin kicks major ass…Mother, Working Class Hero…that’s the real deal and his Beatles stuff was pure bubblegum compared to how raw and personal that Plastic Ono Band debut was. In fact I’m going to have to go and dig out the record as I haven’t heard it in aaaaaaages!

yeah but 2 virgins, wedding album, life with lions were absolute garbage

despite that obviously nobody liked her stupid high pitch wailing nor she could sing in a rock or a pop song format (or any singing tbh), he was kind of pushing her to perform live and singing half the songs on double fantasy and milk and honey albums, those songs i just cant stand

and beatles were awesome XD

john was LAUGHING at her wailing in the Rock N Roll Circus movie with the stones. youtube it.

Plastic Ono band…listen it’s a great record but you’re gonna have to have some proof that she was heavily on that thing. all the tracks were written by john. what did she do?

Dude what’s with the Yoko hate? She co-wrote a heap of those tunes, played drums and produced the album. Check Wikipedia. I checked that YouTube vid and John was obviously laughing at how crap the Stones were.

DUDE! She broke up Ministry!

AND The Beatles! Not into Yoko either. She would still be a nobody if it weren’t for Lennon. His legacy is the only thing that she’s really got going for her.

As for the new HTDA. Haven’t heard the album yet, but I did hear the EP. I loved the first EP. Second EP, not so much aside from maybe a song or two. If the album is completely like that, meh.

I liked it. I’m really digging the ambient/experimental stuff.

Personally I’m quite a fan of Trent and do tend to like pretty much everything he does. With that in mind - I do really like this new album a lot.
For a little while I was unsure about the HTDA project. The two EPs were both a little rough with some good songs but were mainly a place to put some experiments and sketches.
If you’re into industrial / rock type stuff though this probably won’t have much appeal and sure, there’s nothing really ground breaking here regardless of what you like, but as a left-field pop record it rocks.
I actually like that Mariqueen sings more on the album. It seemed like maybe she was a rubbish singer hence why her vocals were always low in the mix or whispered, but having them more up front helps give the band a stronger identity. Check ‘And the sky began to scream’ or ‘We fade away’ for good tracks.

As for Yoko Ono - I feel a bit sorry for her to be honest. I don’t actually care for anything she’s ever done. Saw her live once a few years back and it was all full on hippy indulgence. ‘Walking on Thin Ice’ was good though. She’s a bit daft and gets a hard deal from Beatles / Lennon fans. Sure she didn’t force John into doing anything. Both were probably too stoned to think too hard about anything.

Bitching about volume of the player and repeated tracks from the e.p. aside (the lengths are slightly different, so I guess they’re extended mixes), I like the album a lot.
It’s quite as downbeat as some people here are making it out to be either. It’s not Broken, but it’s not exactly Music For Airports either.

Tweaker (chris vrenna’s band) apparently just realised a new record

They’re about to go on a small tour.
