Hopes for the new album?

And now for the positives…!

Most people (including myself) have heaped quite a bit of criticism on Al and his cronies as of late regarding the imminient ‘Rio Grande Blood’. Y’know regarding the whole Bush thing and the fact that alot of fans are seemingly disappointed with Al’s persistant forays into the murky and unambitious world of heavy metal. We all seem to be ‘haters’ at the moment. Kinda like when a football team is playing badly and the fans are whinging and whining about not winning.

SO, I was kinda wondering if many people here still held high expectations for this forthcoming release? Is anyone actually excited about what Al has in store? And if so, what in particular are you excited about?

Personally (and I know I probably won’t get it), I’m hoping that, well seeing as it’s gonna be a ‘metal’ album and there’s nothin I can do about that, it will at the very least be an evil sounding ‘hateful’ metal album, dripping with ugliness…kinda like Filth Pig was (in my opinion definitely their most depressing release). ‘The Great Satan’ had an interesting black metal vibe to it, and if he carries this through to the rest of the tracks, then perhaps there still is hope.

I mean Al really ‘hates’ Bush and if he uses this hate constructively…

Agree/Disagree??

I’m not hating but I’m not praising either. I’m just gonna wait and see. I’m sure if it’s within the trend of the last 2 albums I’ll like about half the album, utterly hate 2 songs and have no real opinion on the rest. I’m digging the cover art, though! I don’t really care what Al covers in his songs be it poltics or someon keeping their filthy hands off of someones ice cream! although witty lyrics are cool

i don’t have hight hopes for rgb. hotm was so bad it made me rediscover animositisomina in a new light as band’s latest overall good release. but i guess we’ll wait and see.

If it’s gonna be a “metal” album, it will be like every album since… ‘Psalm’?.. ‘The Mind’?.. ‘Land’?..
What a discovery! Did you stop to listen to Ministy 20 years ago? “Metal” elements are part of Ministry’s music since a damn long time…
My hope? That this board becomes interesting again like it was years ago… But I have no big hope…

I just hope it’s a progression. I thought Mole was great, but I’d like to hear him forward a bit. Hopefully his new band had a hand in the writing.

kinda like Filth Pig was (in my opinion definitely their most depressing release).

Filth Pig was definitely the most depressing. Probably reflects Al’s worst period. The Fall needs some serious therapy.

I hope to hear an angry, fast industrial-thrash album. I dont think I’ll be dissapointed since Ministry is still the best band to make this kind of music. I am also sure that just like Houses Of The Mole (which I really dont mind listening to once in a while) there will be a small amount of interesting and ‘experimental’ moments. Basically, I am not expecting Ministry to redefine themselves once again (few bands are able to do that so late in the game). I am merely expecting them to make more of the same but with good songwriting. I really dont think Al will dissapoint me and my fairly realistic hopes.

I listen to a lot of stuff. I dont need a single band to satisfy all of my needs as a music listener. Ministry is great for those times when I want to vent my anger or simply jump around or something. Crushing thrashy industrial metal with bellowed vocals is really as good as it gets for me in this respect. If I want to listen to innovative post-punkish stuff, I can always listen to some other band.

If it’s gonna be a “metal” album, it will be like every album since… ‘Psalm’?.. ‘The Mind’?.. ‘Land’?..

Hmmm I don’t agree with this at all. Sure there were always some elements of metal (starting with Land of Rape and Honey) but Ministry was never as overt and unoriginally ‘metal’ as they have been since Paul left the group.

I’m sure the new album will suck as bad as Houses of the Mole if not worse, but I am holding out for those few gems where Al deviates from the thrash formula (ala “Worm” “World” and “WTV” on Houses)

That being said I think this thread is stupid why the fuck speculate even more about this release? We know not to expect Al to reinvent himself. We know most of it will once again be lowbrow “I hate Bush!” type thrash metal. We know that everyone who hates on new Ministry is holding out for the album NOT to be lowbrow “I hate Bush!” thrash metal, but we know it WILL be lowbrow “I hate Bush!” thrash metal, so what the fuck is the point of talking about it and pissing off Afra & co. in the process?

(btw ‘lowbrow “I hate Bush!” thrash metal’ is the new genre categorization for Ministry so get with it)

Personally, I kind of liked Houses of the Mole. Maybe my least favorite Ministry album, but I give it an occassional spin, and I played it a lot when I got it. Worm and World are great songs, and none of them are really bad. On the plus side, it’s probably easier to get into than most of their albums.

The Great Satan and Bloodlines were both a bit disappointing to me, though, so I’m not sure what to expect. I’ll just have to hear it first.

Regardless, the lyrics will probably be crap.

bloodlines is ok even considering it’s a so what rehash.

but great satan is fucking awful. it may be a good track, but WHY ALL THE NOISE?

when i listen to MIND, i’m amazed how clear and balanced that album is, sound-wise. ok, filth pig was pretty trebly… dsots was ok, animositisomina was very trebly, houses production was shitty but THIS? i mean, it’s all just like a wall of uncool noise… with drums and barking vocals.

I’m a Houses fan - that’s the album that got me back into Ministry. Of course it’s not my favorite, but there was really only one tune on it I didn’t like (Warp City). So, I will most likely dig the upcoming album. Again, I’m not holding out any huge hopes for it - Rio won’t be innovative like a Twitch or a Mind - but it will still be Ministry. And you can’t really ruin that, you know. Besides, I may not like Warp City, but I’d rather listen to it 37 times in a row than anything on the radio these days…again, you can’t much go wrong with Ministry, regardless of the theme.
Kudos, Olsen, for trying to start a “positive” thread. I’ve even been following suit and getting into the bickering lately, and I don’t much hate anything. Just those freaking conservatives, really.

Thanks.

I posted this after listening to HOTM in the car the other day and really liking it. Except for Waiting. I think Warp City is brilliant (reminds me of the film Gummo) and WKYJ sounds like it should have been included on Filth Pig. Wrong and Worm are cool to listen to, however both are lyrically weak, especially Worm (‘It’s like living in a house that’s haunted’…I mean c’mon!!). So I guess I started to see a glimmer of hope. WHich is good.

Anyway, to be honest I don’t really need another Ministry fix at the moment. If they never put out another album I wouldn’t blink. More interested in what Tool have in store for us. Now THAT is worth hanging out for. There is a review over at the toolnavy.com forum and it sounds evangelical. That’s right … e-van-gel-i-cal!!

there’s tons of stuff i’m looking forward to in the next few months, it’s a great time to be a music fan (peeping tom, primal scream, gomez, jesu, etc )

but as for the new ministry, I’m definitly looking forward to it. HOTM grew on me in time, it’s nowhere near my favorite, but still better than all that other crap out there!

i just wish the production on the drums will be good. the cymbals and snares really hurt my ears on animositismonia and houses

I just hope it’s a progression. I thought Mole was great, but I’d like to hear him forward a bit. Hopefully his new band had a hand in the writing.
My thoughrs exactly. I do believe it may very well turn out to be a positive release, hopefully some progression with the help of the current bandmates. Find it difficult to see someone like Tommy Victor performing the material without having any say/ideas in the process as he´s for most of the time been running Prong for 20 years now.

How do you explain then that ‘Psalm69’ became such a big reference for metal fans in 92?
Of course Ministry is not a metal band, even these days, but I can garanty you that during the first half of the 90s, a few Ministry songs had a lot of success in metal clubs (‘Thieves’, ‘Burning Inside’, ‘Just One Fix’, ‘Hero’, just to name a few) along some Metallica or Slayer…
I would even say that ‘Psalm69’ and ‘Filth Pig’ are more metal oriented sound wise than ‘Houses’…
What has changed since ten years is that the metal community took a lot of inspiration from the so-called industrial-metal scene (Ministry, Skrew, Godflesh, Pitch Shifter, Fudge Tunnel, Killing Joke…) and some metal bands use a lot of ‘tricks’ from the industrial scene.

Oh boo fucking hoo…

Seriously what is it with you people about the damn treble on recent Ministry??

I think the production of the drums on Animositisomina is there best to date! It fucking rocks, so crisp and clean.

Maybe my ears are shot from listening to Merzbow, but honestly I think you’re all just a bunch of sandy cunts.

well i guess your hearing is fucked.
