I had just about written off this possibility. Bowie has a new album coming out in March. This is his first recorded material in a decade (the longest he’s gone silent by a wide margin). The first single is out now, the aptly titled “Where Are We Now?”
Listening to it now. His voice does sound older, but still good. Sort of a down tempo piece similar in tone to some of the stuff on Buddha of Suburbia. Has a good build up towards the end.
Fucking rad.
(Now I’m doubly excited for Connelly’s concert on Friday.)
I like the song; it’s easy going and builds to a sweet 2nd part. It’s a smart move I think as I hope/think he has more in his arsenal for this album and this is a taster as opposed to the best thing about it.
I think there should be caution with expecting a fantastic album though (not to say that it won’t be). It has been a while since he’s released anything and he would have gathered many new fans in the meantime, who would be digging 60s to 80s Bowie but don’t pay much attention to the more recent output which, apart from a song here or there, hasn’t been very good since the 80s.
Though I think he would have got all the crappiness out of him with him Earthling and he doesn’t have to worry about being “edgy” or whatever that was.
