So I found 2 copies of the limited edition white vinyl of TKK’s Confessions Of A Knife. One costs $55, and the other costs $64. The $55 vinyl is near mint, but the jacket has part of the white ring from it being old on it which looks ugly. The $64 jacket doesn’t look as bad, it’s in it’s original shrink wrap (though it’s been opened), but the vinyl is in excellent condition as oppose to near mint. So which one should I buy? I know it sounds crazy to worry about a jacket and such, but I’m pretty hardcore about TKK’s Wax Trax era. I have all 3 versions of Confessions on CD (original Wax Trax, TVT, and Ryko), and the black vinyl that only costed $19. I know jackets get wear and tear, but I like them looking as nice as possible. I was a little pissed to see creases (or is ripple the right word) on my copies of Confessions and Kooler Than Jesus. The latter is in it’s original shrink wrap and unopened.
It’s only a $9 difference.
Buy the BETTER one.
You will not regret it.
If you get the dirtier less sexy one you will get pissed off every time you look at it later, knowing that you could have just put another $9 down and got the better one. You’ll probably spend a bunch getting some fancy frame for it or something anyway. No one ever regrets buying the BETTER of something.
It’s the same way with concert tickets. You think $9 is significant when your on Ticketmaster.com, but then you get to the show and you’re looking at the band dancing around like ants on stage . . . . . 15 feet away from the rest of the crowd, where you could have been. And all you’re thinking is, “If I could pay $50 right now to get to the front, I would.”
Just pony up on the front end and you’ll never regret it (assuming it’s something that you’re into anyway).
Thanx. I was thinking the same thing on it looking better.
Speaking of the album I just found a clip from the last tour of The Days Of Swine & Roses. Frankie sounds like shit here compared to my show, but it looks like Jacky Blaque’s right boob is about to pop out. The still of her boob was the only reason I clicked on it.
Basically when you can see the stylus/needle wobble, as in the record isn’t moving at an even amount horizontally. Think of a record slowly getting melted in direct sunlight, and then listening to it. The music may or may not be affected, though it can be since the needle is slowly going back or forward on the likelihood of the warping.
It’s been years since I’ve spun a record, and I’ve never payed attention to that kind of detail. I actually don’t have the setup right now, and it’s gonna be awhile before I do.
Most warpage is visible if you give it a decent visual once-over. Before you buy a record (if you have the option) carefully slide it out so you can see that it is not scratched or warped. Move it back and forth in the light and look at the reflection/ light bounce off it. That is typically how you can see if it is not perfectly flat.
I’ve actually been told not to leave records in the shrink wrap, and put it in slip cases. My friend says the wrap warps the jacket. That really sucks because I have a couple RevCo records in the original wrap. One of which is the BS&Q picture disc.
I didn’t know that. I would always leave mine in the original shrinkwrap and just very carefully use a razorblade to cut open the access side of the cardboard sleeve.
I always preferred this because I felt it was the most pristine state, and also, it keeps intact any of the original external stickers and stamps that may have been on from the label at time of distribution.
I remember owning that white TKK vinyl. I played it while tripping on a ton of acid and it looked like my record player was bleeding milk. Back when I used to partake that record was a favorite!

That is pretty accurate. Tight shrink wrap holds the jacket and record close together and will eventually cause ring wear on the outer sleeve. It typically doesn’t warp the record.
I usually remove the shrink wrap and put everything in a poly protective sleeve. If there is a sticker worth saving, I carefully cut it out and drop it inside the sleeve (or somewhere inside the jacket).
